NAME: Jeannette
NICKNAME: "Jenny"
HOOKED-UP: 1988

NOTEWORTHY: Here is an example of someone (i.e., me)
being "stuck in high school" and unable to leave it behind.
You know how, after graduating, people still hang out with
many of those same friends & acquaintances they were in
school with?  As if they cannot yet move on?  That was me.

Aside from
TOBY, there were almost a dozen other folks I kept
in contact with and sought out whenever the weekend came
around.  One thing we did was attend our old (Canoga Park)
high school's Friday night football games; and it was there, during
a game, that I hooked-up with Jenny--who by then, was a newer addition to our group.

She is not someone I had noticed before as a potential girlfriend; hadn't even thought of her in any romantic way.  But for some reason, we found ourselves kissing each other in the stands when presented with a quiet moment during that one football game...while just about everyone else within our group had gravitated towards the snack bar, bathrooms or to seek out other friends.  Neither of us were seeing anyone else at the time, so it seemed like a natural thing to start dating each other.

This was another instance of me repeating a common mistake:  rather than get to know the girl first, I chose to date her based on the mere fact that she had an interest in me.  Why waste time, ya know?  Gotta strike while the iron is hot, right?  Yeah; such cliche'd-influenced thinking is essentially where I was comin' from at that point.  After all, I had not dated anyone else in at least a year's time.

I quickly came to realize that we were not compatible, which is a big reason why we only lasted three weeks.  I still had plenty of growing up to do, and had a lot to learn about being a decent, accessible boyfriend.  In her case, she was needy in ways I couldn't handle, and also quite a bit more
experienced than me as well.  To say she was "fast" would be a pretty accurate term; no sooner had we broken up, she began makin' a play for another friend within our group.

At least Keith was smart enough to turn her down flat.

We were both guilty of not being very mature.  Can't expect much from anyone in their late teens as we were.  I also had my hands full with the responsibility of a full time job; and therefore, didn't have much time to spend/waste during the week.  In contrast, she was in her senior year of high school, and fortunate to still be able to enjoy a relatively carefree life that her parents essentially provided.  Honestly, we were a poor match.

I didn't keep track of her after we separated.  Although occasionally seeing her around when there were parties, high school events, etc., I wasn't interested in talking with her.  She maintained a rivalry with another girl in her class (Brandi), who was all too willing to provide updates on sexual exploits whether we wanted to hear them or not.  The problem with both of these girls is that they had loose morals at too young an age.

Competing to be "The Better Slut" should be saved for
after you've turned 18.

The rare rumor about Jenny reached me as late as the early 1990s, when word had it that she either got married, or was pregnant with her first kid...  Something like that.  I didn't pay much attention to the details.  Was really of no concern to me.

Not then.  Not now.
