island is one of the regencies in east nusa tenggara province. It consists of 15 islands (alor,pantar,pura,ternate,tereweng,marica, buaya, pura and other smaller islands). The islands are so rugged that their people are devided into 13 tribes with as many different languages. There are 7 major language groups on alor alone and 5 on pantar. but the indonesian language is still the main language. The climate of the regency is similar to that of flores. heavy rainfall is from november to february or till march. for this reason alor is green all the year around. Alor is also known as "the island of mokos" named after large bronze drums,which are similar to those of the bronze period found in Dongson area in vietnam. Alor is one of the best dive site in the world.It has more than 25 dive sites. This is an unknown island because travellers have just started to go there since 1991 unlike Flores which has been popular since1970. So, no doubt for culture, landscapes and people ,and also the volcanos which are more spectacular than mount bromo in java. How to get there: By ferry from Kupang (west timor) to Alor twice a week. and ferry from Flores tree times a week(from Larantuka through Lembata island).
