Slightly 'off-topic' but does anyone know if i can still get
into the industry with a Physics degree as i am thinking of
declining my offers from Uni's such as Teeside and Abertay for their
courses, and doing Physics. Any help would be much apreciated, ta
very much. Toodle pip

I
got a conditional from Teeside but I recently read it was harder to
get into the industry through computer games specified course than
it is by doing computer science . I'm kind of put off now.

Mchugh - the Paisley 'free laptop' thing is true. You get a
free laptop for the first year. And a T1 connection in your
room.

There's nothing quite like the embarrassment of doing that.
Second only to xmas time. When you go to give your gran a xmas
kiss, and she slips her tongue in.

Not being in the industry yet my opinion counts for little.
But I would say that you have read misleading advice. It
depends what job you are aiming for, your enthusiasm for games, your
abilities, all sorts. Choose a course that interests you enough
to do well in it. I would say that was more important.

yeah, I agree, you could be 16, straight out of school, no
A-levels, no degree, if you're a shit hot animator/modeller/texture
artist, you'll get into the industry, but then most people need the
time/direction provided by the various stages of education to hone
their skill(z/s) :)

Hey, Mchugh, well done on the placement. Blitz games are the
people who made Mummy Returns on PS2 right?
Tommo, u heard anything from Lincoln yet?

Well, ii'll be filling my UCAS app in about 6 months, and i
don't really have any dilemmas right now, but one thing nobody has
told me is whether Abertay is better than Teeside or just more
prestigious? They will both be going on the list, but i like to know
these kind of things well beforehand.
Cheers anyone who can help.

I
wouldn't really recommend teeside to be honest, im in my second year
of the BA comp. games design course. Im gonna retake this year
because our options for next year are just absolute bollocks. On
the plus side, our main 3d lecturer Paul Docerty certainly knows his
stuff and is a really decent, helpful (looking over my shoulder)
kinda guy too, the uni looks really nice, erm beer is dead
cheap....and um the surrounding area OUTSIDE of boro is quite
nice. But beware, locals hate students (or do they just hate
me?), dont go out on a sunday (wierdos seem to come out), the water
gives you the shits (same colour too), and it never snows (too much
global warming).
*sighs*

Hey
daftada, I've got my offer from lincoln and really happy about
going. What have you heard about that uni? I was always lead to
believe that Teesside was 'the best' Have you heard good news about
the Computer Games Programming course? Or the same as your's?

hey, i promise teesside is not all that bad, i can only talk
for games programming, but i think its a great course (look at my
online portfolio: http://www.craigmchugh.tk/ to
see the kind of thing we're doing this year (i think theres a module
list on there somewhere (oh, and let me know of any dead links (
*plug* ))))!
placement update:
so far, i've not heard anything about any of the other placements
i have been put forward for, but tomorrow, I have an interview, for
a placement with this company: http://www.primary-image.com/index2.htm
- its not games, but its close!

McHugh, is that your Blitz Games interview on Thurs? I'm on
my placement there at the mo, I'll find out when you're about and
say hello.
<message edit> why don't I just bother to read the messages
above, and then I'll realise that it's not Blitz you're going to on
Thurs.
PS. You're doing better than me, I didn't even get put on the
list for a placement interview at Blitz, I applied to them on my own
and got it.

yeah, sorry no news on the blitz placement yet
when you applied for blitz, did you have a 'sample' to show them?
they have asked for a direct3d sample, but with all the uni work, i
havn't had time, although for a games programming module, i am
actually working on a d3d game which may suffice.
btw, whats it like at blitz? what kinds of jobs are you asked to
do> what are the people like, etc.
