It
is suprising, I'm also here at Teesside studying games design. I've
never really met many people with a passion for games, though I'm
sure they're here somewhere! Hiding on the Edge forum, no doubt.
Anyway, Tommo, I'd recommend the Uni though it's important to
realise the first year is a little dull - you'll wonder why you're
here when you take the communications module! The second year is
where it begins so just hold out until then!

Thanks everyone for making me feel like I've made the right
choice even more so. I actually feel like I've got a direction to go
in now. Ah relief!
Oh and hey - if the first year's dull, I can always spice it up
with all these female's around.

That's actually a good point. How easy is it to get a placement,
and well I know you said it's paid, but is it like fully paid, or
trainee rates or what?

trainee rates as far as i know, ranging between 11 and 18k
for the year. Cheeko will probably have a better idea...

11-18k, that's decent!
Yeah Mischief. Mayhem. Soap keep a look out for me.
Oh and as feedback, I went to Hull's open day today. They've
restructured all the courses, and now it's a specific 'Games
Computing' course which probably from what I can see mirrors the
Teeside Games Development course - hell it even has the year out now
too!
I'd also like to take the points before about not enough
equipement, that it does seem like it has the right stuff. Only
thing about it, was that the birds on campus weren't too much of the
attractive kind...

Exactly, Teessides the place for meat. My apologies to any
female readers.
Seriously though, the course may be comparable, but in terms of
nightlife, Hulls way down the list!

Oh,
I just forgot something too, at this Hull place, they had a whole
library of games, that you could just go into the suite and play.
Admittidly they were all PC ones, but do they have anything similar
at Teeside?

Hope this isn't too late, but it's the uni formerly known as
Lincolnshire and Humberside (it's now just know as Lincoln Uni).
Anyway, the course is based at their Hull (cottingham road) campus.
It used to be a subset of their Computing degree, but it's now
something in its own right. Look at http://www.ulh.ac.uk/ to see the
site, go to courses then computing. The course has change slighty
(if you know what the Teeside games development course is like then
it's basically the same), but the (old) listings on the site should
be of help giving you a feel for the course.
The Lincoln course is now named 'Games Computing' but it won't be
in any of the ucas forms - it only officially changed its named last
week. It used to be called 'Computing(Games, Simulation and Virtual
Reality)'.
The new ucas code is G501 if that helps too.

for
placements, most people dont get good places, only a lucky couple
manged to get games companies but, to be honest thats the uni's
fault, if you are willing to sort something out yourself you'll be
better off, Reflections and Blitz Games are both highly
recommendable, placement friendly companies. Salary wise 10-14K is
what you should expect, but if you're good enough you could earn
yourself a rise.
regarding gaming facilities, Teesside has a games lab filled
with, I think 1Ghz PC's with GeForce Graphics cards and you can play
what you want on them, online or over the LAN I've enjoyed some
slaughtering seesions on Q3arena in there :)
PS. LMAO @ communications module comment above, its a strange one
that one, I couldn't be arsed with it and failed it but they
condoned it on the strength of my other results ;)

Mchugh, have a chat with Chris Williams (you may have him as
a lecturer or tutor) he used to work at Reflections, he did some
tracks for Destruction Derby, lol
