I can’t believe you got into Uni with them grades. My mutter
would have killed me if I got those. Anyway, good luck.

Well I did 9 GCSE's and only got a C in maths and Design and
Technology the rest where D grades apart from three and two of those
where E grades and the other I failed... can't rember what that was
probably geography... it was *yawn* boring... almost as boring a
*yawn* history... which I missed out on. I also think I got the 'E'
for IT... now this is kinda funny because I have a GNVQ intermidiate
and advanced in IT... I have done a HND in Visulisation
(programming/maths/lots of cool 3D work.) and I am doing a course
which relies on me knowing multiple packages inside and out... I
think they where a bit unfair in there grade don't you? :D

Yes, I guess five years in one place would probably make me
bitter too. I know precisely what you mean about friends too, I
decided to stay on at my School's Sixth form, which meant that most
of the people I used to hang around with left, and all the ones I
used to hate now had to be my friends.
Well, I think Teeside is going to be on the top of my choice list
now, with Lincolnshire & Humberside being second.
Something I'm also curious of, I have never used Maya or any 3D
package like that, and I've never programmed in C, I will get taught
it there right? Although I guess it'll help knowing it all
beforehand...

There are two main courses:
BA creative visualisation - This teaches SoftImage &
SoftImage XSI and 3D MAX as standard. If you want to you can use
MAYA for your final year but it is still untaught as far as I know
here.
BSC visualisation - Mostly programming 3D engines and visualisers
using C. C is of course taught but if you cant do the math then
there is no point. You will find it difficult to keep up.
There are now some other interelated courses:
BA Games Design/ BA animation - These two are basiclly BA
creative vis with some modules removed and more suitable modules
added in e.g. Games Design Module, traditional animation module...
you get the idea.
For the first year you will be taught no advanced stuff... you
will not touch a 3D package... it is like a test to see if you can
keep the pace.

Well I was actually looking into doing the Computer
Interactive Entertainment course...
Fair enough about the test bit, and I should be able to do the
math, A level maths has gotta count for something!

Hey, the BSc (Hons) Interactive Computer Entertainment is a
great course! The first year is a bit easy, but now we're getting
into more interesting graphical maths and programming, and looking
at gaming hardware - I really enjoy the course.
I too had Teesside as 1st choice and L & H as second - i'm
glad I came to boro - Cheeko is right, you don't get in trouble in
student areas, its no worse than anywhere else in the country
really. Don't worry about social life either, its buzzin round here
at night.
If you are thinking of picking uni accomodation later on (i'm
sure you'll get in) I recommend King Edwards Square - people look
down on it sometimes because its cheapest, but IMHO its where you'll
meet the most down to earth people, and where the most spirit is. At
the end of last year, when the sun came out, there was loads of
people from the houses on KES gathered on the grass outside having
BBQ's and playing football etc - time of your life :)

Oh,
and BTW don't worry about maths - I hadn't done it since GCSE (and I
did it a year early too, so it was ages ago) and was not too
confident. However, they will teach you all the maths you need here.
If you've done A level maths, you'll walk all over it.

Cheers. Though I found that out today as I was putting them all
onto the form
Mchugh, you salesman you! I'm sold. Just gotta convince my mum to
fund me being so far away from home now - but I've got a whole year
left for that!
Although, I would like to ask about the course specifically. You
do get to make a game of sorts in the last year's main project? Any
GameCube loving yet? (seeing as you mentioned gaming hardware..)
Most of all though, I'd like to say thanks cause you've got my
confidence right back up again. Although I must admit seeing that
57% of the people that go to Teeside are female kinda got my spirits
up

In
the final year, you have to do an individual project, and a group
project. I don't know much about these yet, but as far as I am
aware, the scope of the projects is pretty much in your hands -
especially for the group effort. However, in terms of making a game,
then taking into account time and team size, this is only really
achievable if the game is simple and 2D. To achieve more respected
results, it is likely that you will work perhaps on a 3D engine,
which COULD be made into a game with more time, as building this
engine will use a lot more of the skills that you learn than a 2D
scroller etc.
Gamecube? Well theres none here yet, but the Uni is always
investing money (they recently bought PS2s, and 1Ghz PCs with
GeForce 3's) so it is feasible that other consoles will arrive in
future. It is unfortunately less feasible that we will do any
development for consoles (although we will still learn about it).
This is probably due to the cost and nature of developing for
consoles - PCs are a lot more convenient for the university.
Craig
Oh, and btw, there certainly is no shortage of female talent at
Teesside Uni!

Cheers Craig. Sounds sweet.
I might even be able to go to the open day (Go Fly are doing £10
flights to Newcastle - there's about 300 miles out of my journy
accounted for).
Women are what I'm good at Well apart from computers. hehe.
The formats supplied are fair enough. Cheers, this is a real
insight. *Excitement Grows*

It's surprising how many people there are here studying at
Teesside.
I agree with what 'felix of mars' is saying, I can imagine the
place getting to you over a period of time, but with a sandwich
course it breaks that up, I'm going up to visit friends next weekend
and I'm really looking forward to it. It's only when you leave that
you realise how good it was, with a combination of placement years
and retakes my core social group of about 10 will all be there next
year :) looking forward to it already, oh shit, I'm gonna have to do
work aswell, doh
