This quiz was given in my AP European History class in the beginning of the year. The first year of the Boone Domingo experience had been very easy compared to this year. This year in Mr. Boones European History class for homework, each student in the class was required to read five pages on Monday night, ten pages on Tuesday night, and ten more pages on Thursday night, in order to finish the book in time. This was usually the only homework that the class received. Mr. Boone never had any way to check homework or make sure that we were doing our daily reading except to give us quizzes after reading the assigned pages, which is something he did often. A lot of the times he would never tell us that we had a quiz and he would just give us one. That kept my class and me on our respective toes. Every night I would make sure that I did my reading so that I would be prepared for the next time we had class. During the beginning of the year, I even read the assigned pages more than once just to be sure. I learned with these sorts of quizzes that I should always be prepared, whether it be by doing the reading or by bringing appropriate materials. It is always best to be prepared so that when something unexpected happens, such as a pop quiz, one can do well in that surprising situation. I also learned a lot about the Renaissance, things about that time period that I still remember due to the close reading I did. It was that close reading that got me a perfect score on the quiz. So Im very grateful for that. The important of studying is also something I learned after taking this quiz and doing so well on it. I would not have done so well if I hadnt study the material thoroughly beforehand. There wasnt much about this quiz that I liked or disliked. I liked that the quiz was on the Renaissance because the time period was so interesting. I also liked that I was tested on the material because then I was able to discern how well I knew the material, which turned out to be very well. Seeing such a high score on this quiz gave me a good sense of satisfaction. The only thing that I disliked about the quiz was the questions. Some questions were ambiguous, and although I answered all the questions correctly, I did get confused on some while taking the quiz. If there was anything Id change about the quiz in the future, it would be to make the questions more specific and therefore less confusing. This quiz proves my mastery of being a self-directed learner because it shows how I can take time out to study and do well on quizzes. It proves how I do not need someone to have to check my homework everyday to make sure that I am completing it. Mr. Boone did not give quizzes every time after a reading assignment, but I still read the pages anyway, as proven by this quiz. One of the requirements to be a self-directed learner is to use my skills and knowledge in order to work toward any achievement or career goals I might have. By doing my best on this quiz, I have acted responsibly by showing that I can work hard and diligently without anyone telling me to. I have shown that I am able to utilize my own skills in learning and remembering the material that is assigned.
~Artifact Two: Math Analysis Honors- Chapter Seven Test
I learned a lot of trigonometry by the time we took this chapter test. I had always been pretty weak when it came to trigonometry, but by the time I took this chapter, the subject was a bit better. Memorizing formulas also became important to me. If I hadnt memorized all the formulas so well, I would have done horribly on this test because formulas played such a large part in the test. And although I didnt get enough time test, I learned how important it was to take my time. If I hadnt taken my time, chances were I would have made a lot of little mistakes, the kind I caught myself doing when I went over the problems. And because I did not get to finish the test, I realized how imperative it is that I pace myself. I had spent some time going over hard problems, when I should have skipped them and come back to them later. If I had done that, I would have done the last three problems, problems that I would have gotten right since I knew how to do them. I realized that I should always use the most efficient method and study hard.
There actually was not much about this chapter test that I liked. It was on a subject that I was weak on, it had a lot of formulas to memorize, and I was not given a lot of time. I disliked a lot of this test although that is only because I dislike math in general. One thing I would change about this test is to give the students more time to take it. I felt rushed while taking the test, and it was unfair that I was unable to do the last three problems. If I were to give this test to someone, I would give them a lot more time than I was given, which was maybe half an hour. This test needed at least one hour and thirty minutes. I know this because many other classmates of mine were also unable to finish the test.
This chapter test proves my mastery of being a self-directed learner because the test shows that I can study hard and utilize my memorization skills in order to do well on tests. Two requirements for this ESLR are act responsibly and to use my skills and knowledge to work toward the achievement of my personal education and career goals, which I did with this test. I used my knowledge of math to achieve a personal academic goal of mine, getting a good grade on a math test. I acted responsibly by taking time out to study for the test and go over the material, which resulted in my getting such a good grade, thus achieving my goal. By studying hard for this test and making sure that I was prepared for it, I have proven my master of being a self-directed learner.
