A Survival Guide for Single Parents

After reading Bethany’s book, "A Survival Guide for Single Parents" I was quite impressed.

Not only does she address practically everything a single parent might have to deal with, she addresses it quite thoroughly.

All of the following points are covered. She includes resources for both regular mail and phone, as well as website links.

child care

getting child support due to you

finding time for a social life

budgeting

increasing income

reducing expenses

dealing with stress and guilt

dealing with loneliness and depression

how to make and keep a support network

sex and dating

visitation

time management

saving money

getting out of debt

working from home

and more…..

Her E-book is filled with humorous adorable clipart, which is very appropriate to the content being discussed. Unlike some books targeted to single parents, Bethany’s book relates to, and acknowledges all single parents. Those which are created by choice, chance, widowed and divorced.

Her writing is conscise, she has a very engaging style. I found myself wanting to keep reading and not stop. I laughed quite often at her humorous illustrations. I found her material very informative.

I am of the baby boom generation. I am raising my second family, having kids of the ages, 25, 7, 5 and 1. I attend many parenting workshops—I feel there is always room for improvement. I am open to new ideas and trying whatever works best. Recently after attending such a workshop, I left feeling like,

"Wow, that lady sure has her home running smoothly!"

It struck a big nerve of guilt in me.

Many of her references in her presentation were, "In my home, we do this, nada nada, nada……" Comments from another participant, reinforced my opinion, that I left feeling more guilty than inspired. I didn’t get this type of feeling after reading Bethany’s book.

I found myself very impressed with her wisdom, thinking, I wish I had known all that at her age!

She presents many great ideas for single parents to build a network of support. Many different topics are discussed related to the dilemmas of the single parent family.

As a whole, I highly recommend this book to single parents. It is definitely worth the price. It would make an awesome gift, for a teenage single mom.

Her writing style would be welcoming to both my generation and the young teenage mom as well.

Bethany uses the Adobe Acrobat format to its best. The font is appropriate, just right for reading it from your computer screen. The only drawback or critcism I might have, is she might have prefaced it with some instructions on how to use the Adobe Acrobat reader to its full potential. This can be somewhat confusing to the newbie user.
