Artist Statement

This work is very spiritual in nature.  It is made from passages in the Bible that tell of the second coming of Christ.  The images are drawn from personal interpretations of my world.  I consider them a warning.  They are meant to stir emotion and question the surity of one’s footing.

The work is produced in three parts, first, the bleached images of clouds and trees.  These images are reminiscent of what happened to Sodom ad Gomorrah in the days of Lot.  The work is produced digitally on black paper then subtracted with bleach and salt to pull forth the image.

The second phase of images is the worship or icon series.  They are things we’ve placed our faith in, such as, the constancy of a statue, the intelligence of man, our homes and our cars.  Images of the passing away of these assurances in floods or fires interest me for the reality of their destruction is all the more immediate.  These images are also produced digitally on white paper, with ink, bleach, and acrylic gel medium.

Finally, the images I have created of warning signs speak to alternate meanings.  For example a sign that reads, Blind Person Crossing, speaks to the idea that many people are not aware or simply don’t care about the evident warning signs of Christ’s return.  The Push Signal for Walk sign symbolizes for me the effect the media has on the public in regard to what we eat, buy and do.

I pray the work gives credence to the time in which we are living.
