I was at CNN for only four months. CNN is also know as Cable News Network. They broadcast 24 hours of news all over the world. At CNN, I was a Technical Director. It wasn�t really what I wanted to do, but I had to make the move from Channel 7 and Channel 8. I really liked the people I was working with at 7/8, but it was time to move up the television ladder.
At the CNN bureau in DC, we would do shows with the CNN bureaus in New York and Atlanta. I would Technical Direct this show called Crossfire. Basically, I would switch between the camera sources and we would feed to Atlanta. In Atlanta, they would put in video tapes, and graphics, commercials etc.
I would also direct live shots. What we would do is get a reporter out in the field or in the studio and put the shot up. Then either Atlanta or New York would go to the shot, and we would sometimes roll a video tape.
The people at CNN were great. They were very friendly and I never felt like a stranger there.
