HER NAME IS TAIWAN, WITH DIGNITY
Welcome to our favorite links to Taiwan, our home country.

The official name of Taiwan is Republic of China, which is
considered to be "disputed" in this page. The
national flag is here (from World Flags Homepage.)
Both governments of People's Republic of China and Taiwan hold the
same view of future reunification. However, undaunted by the military
threat from Chinese government, people from the opposition side
advocate for separation from China permanently. In Taiwan, there is a
growing consensus that Taiwan is already an independent political
entity, though far away from a de jure independent country. There
comes a trend to symbolize the significance of the political movement
of Taiwan independence, some Taiwanese call for a new Taiwan's national flag.
News
2004 Taiwan's Third Presidential Election (to be held on March 20th)
The in-depth profiles of three presidential candidates were written by Laurence Eyton for the Taipei Times. Though they were for the 2000 election (the same pool of the candidates for 2004, amazingly), still, it's worthy reading even for now.

Films
Garnering award at the Venice
and Cannes festivals, HOU Hsiao-hsien is arguably the most
famous director in Taiwan. Recently, in Chicago International Film
Festival, TSAI Ming-liang (co-winner, Golden
Lion, in 1994 Venice Film Festival, title:"Vive L'Amore") is a
familiar name. In the end of 1997, school of the Art Institute of
Chicago's Film center inaugurated the first comprehensive Edward
Yang's chronicles in the United States (title:"A brighter summer
day"). Here
