| Disclaimer : I own nothing except for Cadence. Chapter 2 : *** "Come on Cady, you can do better than that" Imoen teased. Both girls were lying on their bellies on the lawn in front of the Library. "Alright" Cadence said, fiddling with her bracelet "How about this one?. I spy with my little eye something beginning with U" Imoen wrinkled her nose and Cadence knew it meant she was thinking long and hard. After a while Imoen let out an exasperated sigh. "I give up, what is it?" Imoen asked. "Ulraunts nostril hair" Cadence giggled. Both Cadence and Imoen burst into a fit of giggles. "Ewww," they both said at the same time after which they started giggling again. When they calmed down, Imoen started making pigtails out of Cadys hair. Imoen loved Cadys hair, it was auburn with bright red streaks in it, strangely Cady had been born with the haircolour. "Hey Imoen, look" Cadence suddenly said. Imoen looked in the direction Cady was pointing, and smiled a mischievous smile. Jonathan and his lady friend were walking by, hand in hand. "Shall we follow them?" Imoen asked, getting up. "No" Cady said, getting up as well. "Why not?. Itll be fun" Imoen complained, a slight whine in her voice. "Fun for us, not for them. They want to be alone" Cady said. "Ewww" Imoen exclaimed. "What do you mean ewww?. I think its kind of romantic" Cady said. Imoen stared at her friend for a few seconds, and then burst into another fit of giggles. Cady scowled at Imoen but Imoen couldnt stop laughing.Cady huffed as she got up, and walked away from Imoen. "Cady, come one, I was just joking" Imoen called. But Cady wouldnt listen, she kept walking. Cady walked around the wall, and towards the cows. Cady heaved a trembling sigh as she walked towards the priest quarters. Why was it so hilarious that she liked romance?. Its not like she was asking to be swept off her feet by a handsome knight. So what if I dreamed of it a couple of times, that doesnt mean anything, she thought. Cady thought back to Jonathan and his lady, and sighed again. She wished she could have someone for herself. Suddenly tears stung Cadys eyes. Who am I kidding?.No one could ever want me. Cady was so absorbed in her thoughts she didnt even notice Phlydia standing nearby. "Cadence, come here for a moment" Phlydia said. Cady reluctantly went over to Phlydia. "Would you believe I forgot where I put my book again?," Phlydia asked. Cady giggled. "No,that sounds impossible" she joked. Phlydia seemed oblivious to the joke, and she sighed in defeat. "I dont suppose you would be willing to go find it for me," Phlydia said. "Sure, where were you when you last had it?" Cady said, cheering up a little. *** "Gorion" a voice yelled through the halls of the library. "Oh dear" Gorion whispered as Ulraunt came rushing towards him. "Gorion, that foster child of yours is a disgrace" Ulraunt ranted. "Why?" Gorion said, rubbing his temples "What has she done?" "She came into my office, and stole the bracelet I rightfully took from her," Ulraunt said. "Do you have any evidence?" Gorion asked. "Of course I do, the bracelet is missing, and that runt is wearing it," Ulraunt yelled, looking like he was about to pop an artery. "Do you have any evidence that it was her who stole it?" Gorion asked Ulraunt was silent for a second but quickly recovered. "I dont need evidence, I know it was her. It was obviously her" Ulraunt yelled. "So you have no evidence?" Gorion asked, calmly. "No," Ulraunt grudgingly said. "Then I believe you have no right to judge Cadence like this," Gorion said. "Its a mistake to keep that girl here, shes sweet and innocent now," Ulraunt said, spitting the word innocent out "but shes a Bhaalspawn, and she will be the death of us all." "I have already told you my opinion on the matter, and I do not wish to repeat myself. It is my duty to take care of Cadence, and I will do so in my own way." Gorion said. "Fine, have it your way Gorion but dont think Ill stand back much longer" Ulraunt yelled before loudly making his way through the halls and out of side. Gorion sighed as he sat down, Ulraunts rant reminded him once more that he didnt have much time left. The letter he had received from his friend had been clear enough. They would have to leave soon and although Gorion didnt know where he was going to go, he at least had friends he could trust. |
