Oropher : Oropher was of Sindarin origin.His realm was in Mirkwood,before the building of Barad-D�r and the rising of the Necromancer at Dol Guldur and extended into the woods surrounding the Lonely Mountain.Long before the Elves of this realm had migrated from the South near the Mouth of Anduin and Belfalas and they were kin and neighbours of the Elves in Loth-L�rien but they had dwelt in Mirkwood East of Anduin around Dol Guldur.Oropher had in the Second age withdrawn Northward beyond the Gladden Fields of several reasons.One was the increasing population of the Dwarves in Moria.After the rising of the Necromancer Oropher moved once more North,this time to the Western glens of Emyn Duir beyond the Old Forest Road.His son was Thranduil.
Thranduil : Son of Oropher.Father to Legolas Greenleaf.King of the Northern Mirkwood.It is told that Thranduil fought in the Battle of the Last Alliance with his father, he was in the first assault upon Mordor rushing forward with his father and their most doughty warriors before Gil-Galad had given signal for advance and they were cut off from the main host and driven into the Dead Marshes with heavy losses as the result. Thranduils father died and after the war Thranduil led back home barely a third of the army that had marched out. |
