Roles of Famiy Members

Father; head of the family, helped establish Massachusetts colony because
of free worship, plowed and and planted farm fields and took care of animals.

Mother; knew about farming only after marriage, manages household, prepares
food, and makes clothing.

Son; helped father with chores like plowing, planting, hoeing and harvesting
crops. Learned to load and fire musket, hunt and handle an ax to
chop firewood.

Daughter; taught how to cook, bake, weave wool, sew lining, and how to
preserve food.

usual family activities- swimming, fishing, berry picking, ice skating,
and snow games.

Children worked in textile mills, often next to family members; until age
7 wore robes.
