Bolivia
In July of 2002 my youth group took a missions trip to Bolivia.  It was one of the best experiences of my life!  Not to mention that's also where Jonathan and I "hooked up".  Here's some pics and info.
At the G.R. airport just before we left.
This was a fairly typical sight to see outside of our windows on the "bus" going through the mountains. (I say "bus" because it was more like a 20 year old nursing home van.)
After spending a couple of days here and there, we flew to San Borja in two of these planes.  The only problem was there were 18 of us, and only 3-4 people could be in a plane at a time and it was an hour and a half one way.  It made for many trips.  and by the grace of God, they all went perfectly smooth.  (there were also a couple of passengerless rides for all of our lugage.)
This is me with the Johnson family.  We stayed with them for about a week and helped them out with different odd jobs.  They maintain a radio station that is broadcast in the language of one of the native tribes near where they live.  The little town they live near is called San Borja.
This is where the Johnson's live.  The building on the left is their house.  The building on the right is the radio station.   It's the one we're standing in front of in the picture to the left.
After driving through all of that and a nice long walk in the jungle, we went down a river in two hollowed out tree canoes.
Traveling to one of the villages deep in the jungle, our trucks would get stuck....a lot.  We all road in the back of the two trucks.
This was actually a sunrise in San Borja.  This was also the type of view we had everyday
We stripped, sanded, and varnished a lot of beautiful mahogany desks at this school for a couple of days.
Back in the U.S. at O'hare airport waiting for the rest of our luggage to arrive.
more to come....
