Haltered Elegance best describes this elegant gown designed in August, 1998. Featuring a haltered bodice and A-line/Full Skirt, this satin and lace gown is a beautiful choice for any member of the wedding party and any special occassion. With its lace bolero jacket and lace skirt overlay, the gown is perfect for dinner, dancing, and whatever else comes along. Designed with your comfort in mind, the usually low back is raised significantly so you can wear a standard convertable bra with it.

The waist is kept natural to about 2 inches below the waist (shown), depending on the effect you would like.

For our prototype here, we used turquoise blue polyester satin for the bodice, emerald green silk charmeuse for the skirt, and turqoise blue nylon dress satin for the jacket and overskirt, leaving it completely without a petticoat, which works well as you can see.

Suggested fabrics include: polyester satins of differing weights, silk satins, silk doupioni, silk tussah, and heavy silk shantung for the main layer, standard dress lace for the overskirt and jacket. For a more formal look, try imported laces. For a more casual look, cottons and linens work well, especially challis and polished cotton, eyelet. Avoid brocades and patterned fabrics for the base layer unless a tuille, organza, or related sheer fabric is selected for the jacket and skirt overlay.

A beautiful summer style that works in many occassions. The back is very practically done so that comfortable underpinnings work--at half the cost. Style is very flexible so many fabrics and combinations work well. Gown works with many heights and builds. Smaller chested women benefit from breast enhancing underpinnings and tools such as the Curves bra inserts used in these photograph. An all around good style for most people.
