About Us
Laurel Skuba

I am the owner and primarily the operator of Pawsh Professional Show Services.  At the age of eleven I purchased my first show dog, a keeshond named Tessa.  Tess and I competed in conformation and junior handling, but our main love was the obedience ring.  A few years later a belgian tervuren named Trojan entered our family and I caught the show bug.  As I grew up I competed in junior handling winning the Manitoba provincials twice in a row and gained national standing with my kees in obedience and my belgian in the show ring.  I began to work with breeders learning some grooming and handling and became very active on the german shepherd specialty scene. On my sixteenth birthday I won Best in Specialty with a shepherd bitch named Quackers, which remains one of the highlights of my handling career.  From there I went on to gain national standing with another shepherd named Astro, winning seven Best in Shows with him.  Today I own my own shepherd, Envy, bred by one of my mentor's Lori Iverson of Nobler GSD.

In 2003 I decided that it was time to expand on my skills and moved to Calgary to tutor under Shaunna Bernardin, who is known to be one of the most talented groomers in the world.  It was there that I learned what it meant to be a handler.  I jumped into the middle of Torin, the Irish Water Spaniel's campaign year and was along for quite a ride.  I had the opportunity to work on many gorgeous dogs of a variety of breeds from toy poodles and shih tzu to bouvier and giant schnauzers.  I also learned about running a set-up, what it meant to be a "professional", and the blood sweat and tears that go into a campaign.  An inspiration, I still often ask myself what Shaunna would do.

Now home in Winnipeg, Manitoba I have been handling on my own ever since.  My background in obedience has made me an effective trainer, and grooming has become my income and hobby.  I have had the opportunity to work with many lovely dogs of many breeds, and I thank all of my clients who entrust their dog's show careers with me.

Cory Huclack

Cory's first love is football, but he can often be found jogging, walking, and playing with the dogs.  He helps me with the grooming at the shop and at the shows, and is the reason that all the dogs staying with us turn into spoiled house pets.

Jan MacDonald

Jan breeds Lhasa Apso under the Jalco prefix and helps me manage my handling classes.  She is a godsend when it comes to paperwork and getting everyone registered and into the most appropriate class.

Geri Thompson

Another local handler, Geri helps me teach handling classes when things get hectic.  Always upbeat and willing to jump in where needed, Geri's classes are fun and informative.

At the shows...

The individuals who help me out at the shows are some of the hardest working people I have ever met.  We work long hours, often from five in the moring to eleven at night and these people are the glue that I rely on to get your dog into the ring looking and feeling his or her best.  Trina Neil, Sandra Sinnock, Christine Kaskiw, and Kyle Sabourin thank you for your support and help.
