affichée dans un bal que Jean-Pierre Aumont avait séduit Grace Kelly. Et seul un prince put le détrôner. Depuis quinze ans déjà, il
incarnait ce que les Français ont de plus doux aux yeux des Américaines: le charme. Il était le French lover. Le temps de tourner cinq films,
dont "Drole de Drame" et "Hôtel du Nord", et le jeune premier lancé par Cocteau avait dû choisir l'exil. La guerre l'envoya à Hollywood et
à Broadway. Certes, Jean-Pierre Aumont y décrocha le plaisir et la gloire d'avoir été le partenaire et le confident de Dietrich, Garbo ou
Vivien Leigh mais c'est dans les rangs des Forces françaises libres qu'il gagne une décoration qui n'était pas du cinéma: la Croix de guerre.
Il aura incarné l'insouciance et l'étourderie de la jeunesse d'avant-guerre. Il en restera, aussi, un des plus séduisants héros. Il s'est éteint à
Saint-Tropez, fidèle jusqu'au bout à la légende du cinéma. Jean-Pierre Aumont avait fait de sa vie un gigantesque générique. Hollywood,
où il enchaînait les tournages et les idylles, ne lui avait pas seulement donné la gloire, mais une femme, l'actrice Maria Montez, une superbe
beauté dominicaine qui l'attendit pendant son plus long engagement: dans la 1re division des Forces françaises libres, alors qu'il faisait la
campagne de Tunisie, d'Italie, et débarquait en Provence, où il était le premier Français à poser le pied à Cavalaire. Deux blessures ne le
rendront pas plus grave. Pourtant, la vie s'acharne. Il perd Maria, à 34 ans. Elle lui laisse une fille, Tina. Quoi de plus naturel: Tina à son
tour va devenir comédienne et se mariera avec un autre jeune premier des années 60, Christian Marquand. A son retour d'Amérique,
Jean-Pierre Aumont tourne en France et en Italie, et se remarie avec la comédienne italienne Marisa Pavan. Ils ont deux fils, l'un est chef
opérateur, l'autre scénariste. Jean-Pierre Aumont est passé du théâtre de boulevard à Duras, de Carné à des films alimentaires, de
Truffaut à Lelouch. Il tourna jusqu'àà 85 ans, âge auquel il refusait encore de se prendre au sérieux. Quand on lui demandait le secret de
son succès ou de sa longévité, il n'avait qu'une réponse la même que Churchill: "Jamais de sport".

venue présenter à Cannes "La main au collet", de Hitchcock. Il lui fait visiter la Côte d'Azur et Paris. Quelques mois plus tard, elle se
fiancera avec Rainier de Monaco. In 1955, young actress Grace Kelly meets her friend Jean-Pierre Aumont. She came to present Hitchcock's "To Catch a

Truffaut to Lelouch. He made movies until he was 85, an age at which he still didn't take himself too seriously. When people asked him the
secret of his success and of his longevity, he always answered the same as Churchill: "I never exercise".
