All About Aumont: Jean-Pierre to you!
By Joan Caulder
From Close-Up Magazine, June-July 1948
He was born and educated in Paris. Later attending the Conservatoire of Drama. Tall, blond, blue-eyed, good-looking, he lends an air of deep contentment to everything he does. His name is Jean Pierre Aumont, but everyone knows him as Jean.
Married to one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, Maria Montez, he loves his home and family. Said family being one Maria Christine, aged 2; the focal point of the lovely Aumont-Montez home in Beverly Hills.
His great sense of humor, which Jean believes is an essential requisite to personal happiness, seems to dominate his whole personality. He laughs easily and his smile is frank and very sincere.
Jean is now climaxing a career, which began on the stage of his native France, by co-starring with Maria in a new romantic adventure called "Atlantis".
During the war Jean Pierre served in the Free French Forces as a Lieutenant. After the Armistice he went to New York, where he teamed up with Katherine Cornell. While waiting for Miss Cornell's play "Rose Burke" to open Jean went to Canada, where he appeared in "The Straw Lover" and "La Vie Boheme". So back to New York.
While in 'Frisco a movie executive saw the play and Jean signed his first contract with MGM. It was not unexpected to those French critics who had seen him in 1936. One of them was Charles Boyer.
Jean has some very definite hates. Things like ties, hats, collars, and gloves. They make him feel restricted. "Like I am in jail!" That's why he loves open cars, the sea and living in the country.
He says the war gave him a different outlook on life. Not only mentally but in heart and spirit as well. He is even grateful to the war, for it is on account of it he came to Hollywood.
Jean is very honest. His most vehement hate is liars. He is very thrifty. If he wasn't, his only extravagance would be cars.
He loves people and thinks they are fascinating. Perhaps that is why he is always asking questions. His first impressions of people are invariably right.
So are mine. I like the tall, good-looking young man called Jean Pierre Aumont. He will go a long way, and we will string along with you Jean. We think you're a swell guy...and boy those looks.
