In a field of marigolds
19 February 2009

We are like flowers
Across a wide field
For miles and oceans
White, yellow, red and blue
We open up to life
Smile in the dazzling sun
Enjoy the breezy wind
And pollen from the bees
Nourish from rain and earth…
But at one point
It could be one day
Or hundreds more
We close our petals forever
And forever more.
Life’s secret in us.
Remember the smell.
Remember the colours.
Maybe believe that one day
We will all meet again
In a field of marigolds
Much bigger and perennial.
Life is a gift, death a certainty
But nobody can take
Your memories away.
