| Many people want to share with a hurting couple about there cousin who had 6 miscarriages and now has a beautiful child. Though this is meant to give the couple hope, it can often remind them that they may have many more losses before a successful pregnancy can occur. Don't bombard them with questions about when they are going to have another baby. This is very private for some couples. Don't say, "You're still young, you can have more children." Don't say, "I guess it just wasn't meant to be." Don't say, "Nature has a way of taking care of itself." Don't say, "At least your baby will never know how horrible this world is." Don't say, "As soon as you have another baby, you'll forget all about this one." Don't say, "At least you have 5 other healthy children." Don't say, "At least you got to experience what it is like to have a baby." |

| Get a meal list set up between friends. Most couples are not going to be up to cooking for a couple of weeks. Talk about the baby. Most parents are proud of their baby and want to talk about the good things. (examples, cute things the baby might have done, pretty features about the baby's body, how sweet their son or daughter looked holding the baby, etc.) Offer to take care of other children so the parents can rest and begin to heal. Offer to help out with the thank you notes. This can be very overwhelming to a newly bereaved parent. Offer to do laundry and other house hold chores. Do say, "I'm sorry." Do say, "We love you and are here for you." Do say, "We are praying for you." Do say, "You have been the best mommy/daddy you could be." Do say, "We are proud of you." |
