This piece has a little story behind it. I was at a local wood carving museum, picking through some walnut boards down in the basement. I was actually looking for wood for another project, and as I pick this board up I set it behind me, against the steps. I then turned to continue my search through the stack of wood. I distinctly heard a voice say "Look again." (No one else was around). I turned and looked at the board I had just set behind me, and there, in the glow of a bare basement overhead lightbulb, I "saw" what you see here, exactly. It lay perfectly in the grain of the wood. Needless to say, I purchased the board, ran home, set it up in my living room, adjusted the lighting, and then drew out what I had seen. There followed a bit of rounding and detailing with the chisels...and the piece was finished. Another that I'll never part with. |
