CHAPTER FIVE
Interlude: Vladira’s Sojourn

Awakening to New Surroundings

Author: Vladira

Date: 06-05-03 14:37

How long had she slumbered after she had been locked away by a Hunter? She knew not the time. When or where was she? The darkness surrounding her, then, the sound of scraping.....scraping.

How she wanted to scream out for those making the sounds to find her. All she remembered was being thrown into a coffin, the lid being slammed shut, and hammering noises above her. She had scratched at the lid, but, to no avail, she had been trapped. The darkness having been so long, that she hungered to be free. And, she hungered for more that just that as well!

She heard the scraping cease. Then a voice. "Here, I have found it. She is here!"

Vladira had awakened to new sounds, and wanted to feel freedom again. She felt the coffin she was in being moved. She could hear the sound of earth being moved from around her. Then, she felt being moved. The voices stilled by the sounds of wolves. Wolves! She knew where she was! Back in the cave that she had tried to find shelter in when she and her clan had been hunted. But, are they still there as well?

Then, the voices again. "What about the others?"

"They are long dead. Burned. Nothing remains but ashes. In what condition is this one?"

She heard the sound and felt a slight thump as she had obviously been set down. "It is still intact. She is most likely still with us, My Lord."

"My Lord?" She asked herself. "Who was outside of her prison?She longed to be freed. "How much longer must I wait?" Vladira thought.

Then, she heard someone rein a couple of horses, and she felt the motions of her being taken away from her resting place. She rocked side to side, as she was too weak to really move and break free of her prison.

After a long while, the motions stopped, and she felt like she had been picked up again."Take her to the crypt. Do not drop her. Do you hear me?" One man's voice ordered.

After a short trip then, she felt being placed down. Then, silence. Nothing but silence. Vladira closed her eyes, and breathed slowly. She wondered who it was that had awakened her and took her from her prison. Then, footsteps. Footsteps echoing through the darkness. She reached up and tried to push the lid off of her coffin. But, was too weak.

"Ah, little one. I have you here in safety now. You will be freed soon. I will free you from this dreaded prison. Save what strength you have left." The man's voice said.

She waited. Then, pounding. She felt the coffin shift, and slowly, every so slowly, torchlight. She saw a man's face peer into her prison. He gave an evil grin, and then continued removing the lid. Then, Freedom!

Vladira gasped for the air that had been long since taken from her. She tried to sit up, but couldn't. She felt a hand on her back, and she saw what was obviously the man who had spoken earlier to her, helped her sit up. He clothes were tattered, and rotting away. She had barely anything else on her person.

"Keep still, Little one. You have been locked away for too long. You must be quite weak since you have been imprisoned. Come, I will see to your needs."

He picked her up out of the coffin, and carried her up dark stairs to a bedroom. He pointed out to her tha clothes, and things to clean herself up with. He helped her remove the old garments, and with her cleaning and redressing. She wondered who this man was.

"Who are you?" She asked weakly.

The man smiled as he tied the strands of her blouse closed."I am one who tried to protect your clan, Little one. Now, which one are you? Let me see. Ah, you must be either Vladira, or Arista?"

Vladira closed her eyes and sighed. "I am Vladira. Where are the others? I heard..."

He put a hand up. "They are all gone, Vladira. All but you have been destroyed. And I am one wracked between your world, and one of the living. Not a normal human, and not a vampire. I am Lord Lucarda, sworn protector of your family. But, I had failed.

And now you, Vladira, have a future to build. There are those who will want to destroy you, but, now, you will need to heal, and refresh yourself. Then, you will leave from here to the United States. There are those there that will be either your allies, or dreaded and dangerous enemies."

Vladira wondered what he had meant. But, she didn't seem to care. All she wanted was to be fed. He turned to a large decanter that had a somewhat thick, crimson liquid. He picked up the decanter and poured the liquid into a large goblet. He turned and handed it to to Vladira. She took the goblet into her shaking hands, and slowly sipped the crimson liquid.

She lifted up her head and tilted it back in desire, as she realized what the liquid was. The crimson wyne she craved. How it filled her mouth, and flowed into her. She began to feel stronger. She wanted to drink more, and he obliged her. After a couple of goblets full, she was feeling better. She stood up and stretched. Her whole body beginning to recover.

"Now Vladira, you will needing to be brought up to date on things. Many things have changed since you had been imprisoned."Lord Lucarda said.

"How much has changed? How long have I been imprisoned?"

He looked into her eyes. "Much has changed since you had been imprisoned. 100 years at least. Now, follow me. You have much to learn."

A New Life!

Lord Lucarda had begun helping Vladira with her learning, So many things had come to be since she had been imprisoned. From automobiles to people in space. Radio to cellphones. How quickly she learned!

As the days progressed, Vladira had become stronger. Her powers were increasing, as he helped her learn to use them. In a short time, she was ready to venture out of the castle, and visit any one of the nearby villages.

She learned that she could alter her appearence. Becoming anything from a wolf, to a bat, to even a low lying mist. She went out one night when the moon was full. Lord Lucarda made sure she was ready to venture out on her own.

To her surprise, he showed her the old stables that had been converted to hold vehicles. "Now, Vladira. You have been able to handle the cars well. Let us see how well you can do it alone." He handed her a keyring that had two keys. She made her way over to a black sportcar. She wondered about her being able to drive it, and finally did.

She made her way out of the garage in the car, the top down, feeling the night air against her skin. The moon rose high and full, and she reveled in it. She drove down the mountain pass and entered into one of the villages. She noticed a tavern, and pulled up in front, and parked.

"Interesting. Perhapse a look see?" She said to herself.

She walked up to the tavern dorrs, and she concentrated. The doors opened up on their own, without anyone noticing. As she entered, she heard some whistles. Her skin tight clothes had obviously gotten her noticed. She neared a table, and sat down. Then, a young man, about 6 feet tall, decided to join her.

"Hello there. You alone?" He asked.

"Yes. Always. And you are?" She asked.

"Oh sorry. I am Victor....Victor Telthin. And what is your lovely name?" He asked, taking a hold of her hands.

"I am Vladira Lucarda." She answered.

They sat and talked for quite a while. She had finally met someone, and it would seem, she would have her chance at a new life.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Victor and Vladira had begun seeing each other almost every night. Lord Lucarda wondered if this was the right thing to do. But, she told him that it was. She would see him again that night as well.
She drove out to meet Victor at a spot near the base of the mountains. As she waited, he arrived. They walked along a pathway to a spot overlooking the villages. They watched the moon rise up, and enjoyed each other's company.
"Vladira, do you have a boyfriend or even a husband?" He asked.
She shook her head. "No Victor. No one like that."
Victor smiled. He put his fingers under her chin, and pulled her close. She felt his lips on hers as they kissed. He ran his hands along her back, and she ran her hands along the back of his head. Her heart began racing as their passions grew. Then, she realized what he wanted.
She felt a tug on her blouse, and she didn't let him stop. In a short while, they were fully intimate. She felt his hot flesh against hers. Victor was pleasing her, but, now, she was ready for him.
Her eyes grew dark, black. As he ran his lips along the right side of her neck, her mouth opened, fangs bared. In a swift movement, she felt her teeth puncture his skin and tasted his blood. He moaned as she drank slowly. She left him just enough to remain alive.
She got up and redressed herself. Then she carried him back to her car. She drove back to the castle, and saw Lord Lucarda standing, waiting.
"Ah, you have finally brought him here! Take him to your room, Vladira. Is he still alive?"
Vladira smiled. "Oh yes. He will be quite useful for my journey."
Victor would awake the next morning, unaware of what was going to happen to him.
The Time to Leave
Lord Lucarda had told Vladira that the time would soon come for her to leave her homeland. She had taken a "companion", Victor Telthin. She had watched over him the night she had brought him to the castle. She would let him recover from their intimacy, and see if he survived it.
Victor awoke the next evening, just after sunset. His neck stiff, an he felt slightly weak. He sat up in bed and looked around the room.
"Where am I?" He asked himself out loud.
He looked over and sitting in a chair neaby was Vladira. She wore a sheer black neglige, and he noticed how sheer it was.
"Ah good, you have awakened, Victor." She said. "I was wondering if you would like to do some traveling with me?"
She got up from the chair and sat on the bed next to Victor. He looked at her longingly. But, how did he manage to arrive where he was?
"Vladira? How did I get here?" He asked.
"I brought you here, Victor. You suited my needs greatly. But now, you will accompany me to the States and help me along the way to find a lost amulet that belonged to my family."
Victor sat silently. He felt as though his world had stopped right there. Vladira ran her left hand along his right arm. He felt her gently squeeze the muscles as she leaned towards him and they kissed. She pulled back and smiled. Then, he noticed, her fangs.
"You're a vampiress?" Victor said with a gasp.
She nodded. "Yes, Victor. Now, will you be coming with me?"
He didn't argue. In fact, he was quite interested. "I had never been with a vampiress before. It was you that rendered me unconsious then?"
She nodded. "You fit my plans perfectly, Victor. When we were together last night, I knew that you could be useful.
Oh, I had some food brought up for you. You need to get your strength up for our journey tomorrow."
Victor looked over at a table in the room that had been set for two, and he and Vladira dined. As his strength returned, Vladira told him of her story. He was amazed, and shocked. She sipped her crimson wyne as they ate. He had wondered what drove vampires to such extremes, but, Vladira had no answer for him.
"It is called a Blood Lust, Victor. The drive to have such wyne is strong. That is why I have this decanter and goblet. As you need regular food to survive, we vampires require blood. The crimson wyne of life."
As they finished supper, Vladira had shown Victor where they would be going. A place known as Crimson Kiss manor. She showed him her casket, and what was to be done during their travel. Then, into each others arms they fell, and Vladira felt a heated passion like never before!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

They had departed from the castle just after sunset the next evening. Lord Lucarda told her of where the amulet might be located. She and Victor left for the airport. They had been told of a private jet awaiting them. It was pitch black, and all but the cockpit windows had been covered up. After a stop by customs, they were taken to their plane, and were off to the States.

"I have never flown before in a plane, Victor." Vladira said. She was excited about the whole expirience.

He was happy for her. Now he knew the truth about her, he felt fondly and passionately attached to her. He had given himself to her freely and she rewarded him for it. She allowed him a small taste of the crimson wyne from herself. She had control over him, and she enjoyed it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They arrived in New York and things were crowded. All through customs, and even trying to get through the teminal. They saw a man in black clothes holding a sign with the name of Vladira Lucarda and they approached him
"Ah, Miss Lucarda. I have your vehicle waiting for you." Vladira and Victor were set. They loaded up their luggage, and Victor and she drove off. The time was late in the night, so Vladira had time to see some of the sights before sunrise.
Now all they had to do was locate the pendant, and make their way to Crimson Kiss manor.
Finding the Amulet
Victor and Vladira had left the city and were finally on their way. Drving a black SUV was boring. Vladira had gotten the feel of driving something much faster, and loved it. But, they had so much to do, and so little time to do it in.
They approached a small town on their way to the manor. Vladira started to feel like something was pulling her towards one building.
"Victor, stop!" She ordered.
"What is it Vladira?" He asked with concern.
As they pulled into a space near a small building, Victor noticed that it was a small museum. The town was having a celebration and there were people everywhere. Vladira got out of the vehicle and walked up to the museum. As she entered, there were more people within. But, she didn't seem to notice them. She just kept walking to a glass case. Beneath the glass, was her family's amulet.
"So there you are! It has been too long!" She whispered as she touched the glass.
"Please do not touch the glass Miss." Vladira heard from behind her.
She turned to see a small older woman. She walked up to Vladira and wondered what Vladira was doing.
"Please, forgive me Madam. This amulet, how did this museum recieve it?"
The woman looked down at the case. "It was given to us by one of our town members nearly a century ago. It was said that it came from Europe somewhere. But, it's true history is unknown." The woman said.
Vladira looked up to see Victor walk up to them. "Madam, I can tell you of it's history. You see, it was stolen from my family, and I have been searching for it. I wish to have it returned immediatly. We are willing to pay of course. And, to give you a replacement. An exact copy of this amulet." Vladira said.
The woman didn't know what to say. Then they saw a young man approach."Is there something wrong Mrs. Giles?" He asked. "I am Derek Ellison. Mayor of this town, and owner of this museum. Perhapse I can help you?"
Vladira smiled a bit. Victor touched her left arm to try and get her to control herself. "I am Vladira Lucarda. This amulet was stolen from my family over a century ago, and I wish that it be returned! We are willing to pay and replace it with a copy if you wish."
Ellison stood silent. Then he looked down at the amulet. "Perhapse we can discuss this. In our office?"
They entered the office, and after a deal was struck, Vladira had the amulet, and the town had their money and the amulet's exact copy. Vladira and Victor made their way back to their vehicle and were on their way. She sat in the passenger seat gleaming with excitement. She put a gold chain through the loop on the amulet and still marveled at it.
"Well put it on, Vladira. I want to see how it looks." Victor said, pulling off the road.
Vladira opened the clasp on the chain, and place it around her neck. In moments, she could feel it's power. She felt whole again.
"It looks lovley, Vladira. It's just your type of jewelry." Victor said as he leaned over and kissed her.
She pulled him tightly against her, their lips pressed hard against each others. Vladira pulled back and smiled.
"Now Victor, to the manor. They musn't be kept waiting." Vladira said smiling, and fondling the amulet as it glowed dimly.
Arriving, and Wondering
Vladira and Victor finally arrived at the manor. Something about it gave Victor the creeps. Vladira found it interesting. She had begun to expirience the power of her amulet ever since she had put it on. Some things felt like they had been long asleep like she was, only to have been awakened again.
"Vladira, is this such a good idea? This place is quite creepy." Victor said as they pulled up in their vehicle.
"Calm yourself love." Vladira said softly. "You will not be harmed. I will see to that. Besides, this is where we are supposed to be. It should prove interesting to see who is here."
Vladira noticed a warm feeling from the amulet, and it had begun to glow slightly. She turned and looked to her right and saw something running along side of the vehicle. She could hear it's breath, and saw it's eyes. It looked to be some sort of dog. But, what was it really? As they finally came to a stop, the animal walked cautiously up to Vladira.
"Vladira, be careful!" Victor warned.
She only knelt down and put her hand out. The animal was a dog. But, where it had come from was a mystery. She put her hand on the dog's head, and could hear something from it, but, it was only a mumble. But, it became clearer. Victor noticed the dog looked at Vladira, then towards the door of the manor. She said "Thank you." and then it went on it's way.
Victor wondered what had he gotten in to?
