English subtitles

It didn’t occur to me, while I was visiting, to ask why the de Gracias-Clotets’ would have a movie with the dialogue and subtitles in English. But when I went back and re-read the Diary, about a year after my trip, the incongruity jumped out at me. Eventually I got around to asking Maiol about it, and he told me that it was for Maria, so that she could learn English. Apparently the theory was that she so loved Star Wars, and had seen it so many times in Spanish that she knew most of the dialogue. Therefore, it would help her to be able to hear the English dialogue and to be able to read the words in order to improve her accent and vocabulary. Fairly ingenious of them, I think.
