of the three places i lived while i was in Brasil, one was far and away my favorite. i loved the house, and the people inside it. its the only one that ever really felt like home. the word fot this type of house in portuguese is "chakara", which most brasilians will tell you means "little farm". its not really a little farm. i would call it a holiday home. mine had tennis courts, an inground pool, an orchard, and a soccer field. it was gorgeous. usually people dont live at their "chakaras" they just have it as a sort of weekend home, but my host family did live in theirs. it was a nice place to just sit and soak in the world. there really isnt anything better than walking into your back yard, pulling an orange off of a tree, and eating it as you watch the sun go down. i miss it there..
