About Mrs. DiSciascio
My name is Laura DiSciascio.  I am a native Bostonian and moved to Brevard County in July 2000.  I received my Bachelor of Science degree in 1991 from Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, MA.  I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education grades 1 - 6.  I graduated from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA in November of 1999 with a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Literacy ~ Reading, Writing and Language Arts.

I have been working with children since 1985, which was my sophmore year at
Reading Memorial High School.  I have done everything from coaching sports teams and working at summer camp to teaching sixth grade.  I can't imagine having any other job.  I absolutly love working with children.  I love pushing them beyond what they think they are capable of, and it's wonderful to see how they react to themselves when they see what they can achieve.  Even parents are surprised.  Often times I've been told, "I didn't know she had it in her to do that!"  I always let parents know that nobody has ever risen to low expectations.  A favorite quote of mine is...
Treat [children] as if they were what they ought to be, and you will help them become what they are capable of becoming.
~Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

I began my teaching career in 1997 at
St. Mary Elementary School in Winchester, MA.  I taught one year of 6th grade and two years of 1st grade.  The year I taught 6th grade I also taught creative writing to the 4th and 5th grade classes.

I began teaching at
Atlantis in August 2000.  Since I began at Atlantis, I have been part of the First ~ Second Grade looping team.  I absolutely love looping!  It gives me the chance to see just how far children can academically grow from the time they leave Kindergarten to the time they're ready to go to third grade.

I believe that children learn by doing, and when you come into my classroom you will very rarely see children sitting in their chairs.  They are in different areas of the room participating in hands-on activities.  Make sure you ask your child what s/he did at school today, and please, PLEASE don't take
"Nothing" as an answer!

I live in Rockledge with my husband, Chris, who is a Lieutenant for
Brevard County Fire/Rescue.  We have twin infants, Hunter Charles and Isabella Joy, who made their miraculous arrival on April 14, 2006.  We also have an extremely spoiled English bulldog, Posey Mae.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my husband and children, watching the
Boston Red Sox, and scrapbooking.  I am a reality TV addict, and will not answer the phone if one of "my shows" is on.
