De-grafting with vascular bundles

When a non-permanent grafting stock is used, the stock will be very weak and die in several years later. I use Hylocereus undatus for seedling grafting. Undatus becomes very weak in 4~5 years later after grafting and die suddenly sometimes. This method allows to extend the life of the stock.

1. The stock becomes very weak but it does not die yet. Since the scion has grown well and been heavy, the stock is hard to support. 2. Cut the stock at about 4cm from grafted point.

3. Remove all water-storing tissue with a knife but keep vascular bundles. 4.Cut the vascular bundles further. The length is now 3cm. Covered over the vascular bundles by garden lime and dry 2~3 days.

5. Set 2cm thickness of gravel on top of a pot and insert the dried vascular bundle. 1cm of vascular bundle is in propagation soil under the gravel. Wait rooting. 6.Rooted completely and in bud.
