Gundam Wing: Legend of Mystiks
                                Chapter 44

     Zechs lifted his head.
The others looked at him before following his gaze.
Theyll be fine, Heero said finally. But his voice was soft, as if he didnt quite believe his own words.
     Quatre frowned. I dont know . . .
Wufei shook his head. It doesnt feel right at all . . .
Trowa stood. Something is very wrong . . .
Duo winced and reached for his shoulder. <Damn! When did this happen? It hurts! It feels like somethings running down my arm, but . . .> He scrutinized the spot, but there wasnt even a drop of sweat to explain the feeling. I dont like this. Any of it. Somethings seriously wrong.
You should go back, a Fire Mystik said. Enough of us are well. We can care for the rest.
Dont forget the Ferals, a Life Mystik reminded them. Though I would like to ask for their heads, they offered help which we never couldntve gotten anywhere without. She sighed and looked at the sky. I never thought Id be saying that.
Still unsure, the guys remained a while longer. They mightve stayed longer, if they hadnt felt the stab of pain in their heart all at once. Without a word to anyone, even each other, they took off for the grounds where theyd left their soultwins.
All the Mystiks, those that could, looked at the others and shook their heads.
They will find out, an Earth Mystik said cryptically.
A Wind Mystik snorted. Men! Youre all alike! Wouldnt know love if it bit you in your skinny little ass!
The other female Mystiks laughed at her words.
                                                                  *~*~*
They ended up rejoining, since both groups had moved on and had only left blood, dead Ferals and Restars and Hekatats behind. The guys stopped and moved around the area, peering among the bodies slowly, afraid of what theyd find.
     But it was only Ferals.
They followed the trampled grasses eastward and eventually came upon the last of the Feral army, which were very few. All were wounded, but seemed to be all right otherwise.
We saw them carrying your companions away and gave chase, but they disappeared. Weve been unable to find them. Perhaps you can?
Perhaps, Quatre answered. It all depends on them.
They believe you are all dead, the Feral continued. All but one. She was trying to talk sense to Lady Wind, but Lady Wind would hear none of it.
      Who was it?
     Lady Death.
All eyes turned to Duo, who nodded and cast his senses out. <Come on, Cosmos. I know youre there. Where a---> He stopped and pointed in a seemingly random direction. That way. He immediately took off.
Quatre looked at the Ferals. We appreciate all the help you have given us. Now we can finish this on our own.
The Feral nodded its heads. Best of luck to you and yours, Neo-Kami.
Withholding his surprise, Quatre nodded in return. The same to you. He then took off after the others.
They found the aliens camps within the hour and hovered between the two closely set up camps. This war was no longer completely for the planet. Now it was personal.
They were finally seen and prepared to fight, dropping to the ground but keeping their wings flared to scare the more cowardly ones. The leaders of both sides came out and had a staring contest with them, but they would not be intimidated.
Give them back, Quatre demanded quietly.
     No movement.
      Give them back! Wufei shouted.
     No movement.
      Hand them over! Zechs ordered.
     Silence.
Return them to us, Trowa commanded softly.
     Silence.
Return them to us now! Heero snarled.
     Nothing.
We want them back, damn it! Duo yelled.
     Nothing.
Duo smirked. So thats the way it is, huh? The smirk became a grin promising eternal torture. Im going to make sure you burn in Hell and when I tell Otousan what youve done, hell be
doubly sure you rot! He raised his hands above his head and closed them around the scythe, which suddenly had a crystal blade instead of the normal steel one. Do not deny Shinigami what he wants!
As Duo lunged for them, they scattered. The scythe cut many of the regular aliens in half, but the leaders escaped. If you did anything to them you better hope I never find you and that you never die because if one happens, the other does as well and either way Im going to be spending some quality torture time with each of you!
His action brought the others around and they separated and ran throughout the camps, killing everything that moved, whether it was innocent or not. Luckily it was never a Mystik (theyd all gotten away).
      Heavens Salvation!
      Global Upheaval!
      Searing Inferno!
      Tidal Surge!
      Aerial Breaker!
      Dark Cataclysm!
The powers ripped up the land within eight hundred miles and their clashing brought lightning storms to the areas under them. The camps were destroyed, as well as all the aliens.
Well, most of them. Three had run off, dragging bodies.
     Humanoid bodies.
Out for blood, the six guys silently trailed the two Restars and one Hekatat. When the three stopped, they attacked and ruthlessly ripped every extremity off the aliens bodies without remorse.
Then they found their counterpart and cradled her gently.
It always happens to them, doesnt it? a disembodied voice asked.
Duo looked up. Hai, it is always them.
But its their job, a second voice added. Take any hit meant for you.
Quatre shook his head. That isnt fair.
Shinigami and Kami materialized. It isnt fair only because you love them so much you dont want them hurt, Kami replied gently.
Dont worry. Theyll be okay, Shinigami reassured them. Just give them time and dont let them out of bed. Theyll try it, but you have to be there to stop them or theyll hurt themselves again.
