It�s all right if they do, but it�s not required. Since I was born a human with indigo eyes and eventually grew long hair--wouldn�t stay cut; grew back unnaturally fast--I was the next to become Shinigami since Garin hadn�t had any children. He and I aren�t related in any way.� � Then why are her eyes blue?� � That was probably the color of her okaasan�s eyes and her hair came from Garin. Since it was too late for her to inherit the job of Shinigami, it was not required that her eyes be indigo.� Cosmos yawned in her sleep and giggled as Duo rubbed her back. He watched her for a while, a small smile set in his face. � Otousan,� he said finally, his eyes still on Cosmos, � do you think Cosmos would marry me if I asked her?� � Hai. And if you did so right now, she would accept without hesitation. But I do not recommend it. There is a lot of stress right now and though it would be a happy thing, it would put more stress on her. She does not need any more. She carries more than she should as it is.� � I wasn�t thinking about now. Maybe later. In a few years. When we�ve had our fights and gotten to know each other a little better.� � That is a wise decision, Duo.� *~*~* � There you are!� Duo looked up, confused. � Huh?� he asked intelligently. � We�ve been looking for you!� � Me?� � Both of you! You were with Shinigami-sama, weren�t you?� Duo nodded slowly. � So we were at Otousan�s. So what?� � Nandemo nai. We were just worried. Airia fell in a hole and we all found out about our parents . . . I didn�t even know mine were still alive!� � I�m not surprised. You�re not that old, and they aren�t that old.� � Hai, demo . . . Never mind. Oi, did Cosmos meet her parents?� Duo stiffened. � Don�t ever ask that again.� Halcyon took a few slow steps back. � Sou ka. My apologies.� She turned on her heel and left. Duo waited until the door had shut before relaxing. � I don�t think they�ll ever get it. All those loved by Death die.� There were a few moments of complete quiet, and then a loud scream rang out. Cosmos woke and she headed for Zechs� room, Duo right behind her. They met the rest of the group at the door and flung it open, ready to face anything. It was not what they expected. Halcyon stood in the doorway to the washroom, her back to the inside and her hands covering her face. The other girls went for her to comfort her while the guys peered inside. It was definitely not what they expected. Zechs sat smugly, arms resting out on the cool stones around the bathing basin. He sat in the basin in the chest-deep water, seemingly all right, considering that he was trying not to laugh at Halcyon. � What�s going on?!� Wufei demanded. Zechs shrugged. � She just opened the door, saw me, and screamed.� That�s a lie!� Halcyon cried. � Anou, most of it.� She re-entered the washroom and pointed an accusing finger at Zechs. � I knocked and came in when you said to. I opened the door, but you weren�t anywhere I could see. I went to the edge of the basin to look over it and you jumped out at me with this �I�m going to kill you� look and said �boo�!� She paused before adding, � Then I screamed.� Zechs shrugged again. � Like I said, she opened the door, saw me, and screamed.� *~*~* � Have you seen Cosmos?� They looked up at him, the card game momentarily forgotten, and thought. � I think I saw her go outside,� Terestria said finally. � But for what I don�t know.� � Arigatou.� Duo walked through the room to the window and leapt out it, spreading his wings and heading off toward the forest. � He didn�t say much,� Pyre observed. � Terestria,� Seraph began, � why did Cosmos go out? It�s cold and even though she doesn�t mind the cold, she wouldn�t go out with the temperature like this. Even Cosmos isn�t that weird.� Terestria opened her mouth to speak. � And don�t tell me you don�t know, because you do. I can tell.� � I promised I wouldn�t.� � Terestria!� Halcyon scolded. � How could you?! What if Cosmos went out and got into deep trouble?!� Terestria looked at the table. � She wasn�t lying, Halcyon. She looked right at me and told me. I trust her.� � Well I don�t!� Halcyon snapped. � Tell me!� � Halcyon, Terestria promised,� Airia reminded her. � She�s bound.� � Bound unless asked by a superior!� Halcyon snarled. � Terestria, tell me!� Terestria mumbled incoherently. � Nani?� � I said she went out!� � Where?!� � She didn�t say that!� Terestria shouted. � It�s none of my business, so I didn�t ask!� Halcyon tried a new approach. � Why did she leave?� Terestria settled back down. � To fly.� Silence claimed the room. � But she can�t fly,� Quatre said finally. � She and Duo are very similar,� Wufei put in. � They don�t believe anything until they hurt themselves and they certainly aren�t likely to quit until they�ve broken every part of their body.� � And even then they refuse to accept defeat,� Trowa added. � They�ll keep going until they kill themselves.� � Or break something they can�t fix,� Heero finished. � Heart. Soul.� Zechs nodded and stood. � We should go find them.� |
