Gundam Wing: Legend of Mystiks
                                Chapter 29

Cosmos looked up as best she could. Oi, Duo.
      Aa?
      Want something to eat?
      Aa!
      Milk?
      Aa!
      And a bath?
Iie! cried the suddenly pouty voice.
      Too bad.
Iie! Duo wiggled to get away. Iie! Iie! Iie!
      Okay, fine. Not now. Later.
      Aa!
You shouldnt let him get away with that, Cosmos. Hell learn to throw a tantrum every time, Terestria warned.
Cosmos turned and smiled slyly. Who said I was? Right after dinner, he goes for a swimming lesson.
      Iie! Duo cried. Iie! Iie!
      Damare! Cosmos hissed angrily.
Duo fell silent and stopped moving.
Cosmos looked at her friends and smirked. See? He knows when he can get away with stuff and when he cant.
     They just stared in amazement.
Cosmos continued into the kitchen with a laugh. They all thought you were dumb, Duo! Imagine! Whatever gave them that idea, ne? She fixed a bottle of milk and gave it to him, then went back out into the officers lounge, stopping dead at the sight that she came upon. <Mou, I wasnt gone
that long, was I?!>
The girls sat around the lounge, all asleep. The boys, however, had climbed down to the floor and were crawling from here to there in curiosity. Upon spotting her, they went to her and sat at her feet, looking up at her with puppy-dog eyes. She sighed and went back into the kitchen, five babies trailing her. She fixed them each a bottle and set Duo down against her and the others nearby and watched them.
You all eat too much, Cosmos teased, tickling Trowas stomach. Youll get fat and then you wont be able to move.
There were five screams from the lounge. The babies eyes shifted in the direction of the door, but they didnt stop feeding. After a moment, they refocused on Cosmos, their eyes saying, You can deal with them.
Arigatou, Cosmos said sarcastically, giving each boy a light pat on the head. Oi, stop yelling! she called.
      Theyre
gone! Halcyon shrieked. I swear we only closed our eyes for four minutes and--- She stopped in the doorway and stared. The babies turned to look at her, then went back to their meal. How did they get in here?!
They were all on the floor when I found them, Cosmos replied. They followed me and I fed them.
Halcyon threw up her hands in exasperation. They dont even
know you and they trust you!
Halcyon, if youd quit yelling and treat them like the babies they are theyd probably listen to you like Duo does with me.
      Yeah right!
Halcyon, babies dont like people who yell.
This prompted the Intrepid Water Mystik to quiet herself. Doushite?
It hurts their ears. Just talk normally and youll be okay with them. The reason they keep following me is because Im not yelling.
Oh. Halcyon sat down and Zechs finished his bottle, then crawled to her and sat in her lap, curling into a ball to sleep. Similar thing happened with the others and Cosmos put Duo back on her shoulders and gathered the bottles to wash. When that chore was done she went to Duos room and into the ajoined washroom to draw a bath. She undressed Duo and herself and got into the bath. It took a bit of work, but Duos hair was washed and soon after, Cosmos once more fought his wriggling form to wash the rest of him. Hold still, Duo.
He finally sat quietly and watched her run the cloth over his body, then her own, with an intensity most babies wouldnt have. He reached for the cloth when she was done and took it from her. Holding her finger, he used the little bit of strength he had to wash her hand with the cloth. He then looked to her, asking a silent question.
Cosmos understood. Exactly, Duo. You learn very quickly, no da?
He giggled and laid against her, sighing out a tired breath.
Youre sleepy too, huh? How about we both take a nap right here? The waters warm and I wont let you go under.
     In moments, both were asleep.
                                                                      *~*~*
She smiled at him. He mustve been tired to fall asleep on his desk like that. It couldnt be comfortable. Reaching out, she brushed his bangs out of the way for a clearer look at his face. He was so peaceful, obviously happy. That was good; she didnt want him to be upset because she wasnt there physically.
      Shinigami-sama.
He jerked awake, almost tipping his chair over backwards. Im up!
     She laughed. Mochiron, Shinigami-sama.
He narrowed his eyes at her. Are you making fun of me?
      Iie, sir.
      I know you are.
So what if I am? What are you going to do? Fire me?
He sighed and banged his head on his desk repeatedly. Im so
tired. I havent been this tired for years.
      How come?
He let the side of his head rest on the paper and looked up at her. Its been chaotic recently. The old Reapers remember and they want to play with him all the time and the new Reapers wont stop asking questions and Ive had forty-five souls come in a three-hour time period.
Forty-five.
      Play with who?
      You mean you didnt know?
