Laugh 'N Learn
Family Child Care
About Me
Our name says it all.  We learn while we play and we play while we learn.  Whether we are trying to see how many words we can find that begin with the letter "P" or counting the blocks used to make a track for Thomas the Tank Engine we are applying fun to learning skills that effect our every day, 3 and 4 year old lives.

We learn responsibility by being The Line Leader and The Table Setter, by caring for our pets and our plants, by picking up our toys and by helping our friends.
We learn respect for life and for our creator as we watch our garden grow.  We learn to have fun while respecting the rights of others.

We begin to understand the mysteries of the written language as we learn to recognize the letters in our names and realize that those same letters make up the books that we love.

We run, yell, climb, build and play in our shaded back yard.  We watch the birds and butterflies visit our feeders and wait anxiously for our garden to grow.  We play in water, in sand and in dirt --- making soup and sand castles and mud pies.

Our days are busy, filled with laughter, the occasional tear, and lots of love.

If you feel that all these things mentioned above are a vital part of childhood; if you are looking for a kindergarten readiness program conducted in the relaxed, loving atmosphere of a home -- a place where your child can be consistantly loved and cared for by the same teacher from age three through kindergarten -- please give me a call.  I would love to work with you.

I have been a mom for 26 years (WOW! time really does fly!)  My husband David and I have been married for six years and share 5 children.  Three, ages 26, 25 and 22, from my first marriage and two, ages 17 and 16 from his first marriage.  We also share three beagles and sometimes provide "doggie daycare for one or two more!.

I have been involved in Family Child Care for more than 20 years, first as a young stay at home mom providing unlicensed care in Oklahoma.  Then, older and wiser, learning the rules and regulations of licensed care in Kansas beginning in 1989.
I have served as president of Douglas County Family Day Care Association, and am currently the chair of the Family Child Care Group for Douglas County Child Development Associaion. I also serve on the board of our state association, Child Care Provider's Coalition of KS.  I have earned my CDA (Child Development Associate Credential) and am working toward National Accreditation.  (Further information on these can be found through the links listed below.) I am also working toward my Associates degree in Early Childhood.

Why?
Because I like kids.  I believe kids need to be kids and that the formal classroom setting comes all too soon.  I like sharing my home, my family, my pets and my garden with people who are still young enough to appreciate the wonder of it all.   A selfish thing really, because the joy in their eyes becomes my joy also!
