Ibarra, a city in Northern Ecuador, boasts of the largest number of wood-carving craftsmen concentrated in a single city than any other location in the world. Grandparents and parents serve as mentors to their children and grandchildren as they pass on the unique art of wood carving. The trade is taught in the home and in the schools. Each family has developed a unique technique which becomes their trademark in the works created by family members. Children serve their apprenticiship at the feet of masters and proudly carry on the family tradition. We have established our own relationship with some of the most reputable craftsmen in Ibarra.
