| Secretary Suzan read the meeting minutes from the last board meeting and they were approved. President Karen thanked everyone for such a great social in March, and everyone that helped in making the Norwegian sandwiches. Financial Secretary Peggy reported that we had 26 people attend at $15 for a total income of $390. We made $102 on the raffle, expenses were $535.64 and all in all we had a loss of $43.64. Treasurer Liva reported that we have $2,030.38 in our savings account and $2,185.25 in our checking account. Our money market account is making 5.020% and we have a balance of $6,090.74. We moved the money out of Bank of America without penalty and transferred it to SunTrust Bank to get a better interest rate. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| President Karen made a motion to send a letter to everyone who sent us a donation check for a new lodge booklet of member addresses. In the letter she would included the old checks, thank them and to ask them if they would like to contribute to help redo our Viking ship that we are rebuilding. We are estimating a total cost of $4,500. This was approved and 2nd. She also asked Jan to check on the Tag and Registration for the Viking boat. We also need a new sail for our Viking boat and Karen will ask her sister about ideas. President Karen also made a motion to postpone the Ski for Light donation for 2006 since we can not find the paperwork and instead make a donation for 2007 when we get the new request. This was approved and 2nd. The picnic on Sunday April 22nd was discussed. It will be held in Heritage Park in Plantation at noon and it will cost $10 per person, children free. Social Director Else was not at the board meeting to confirm food items, but we will have the same as last year: hot dogs (Norwegian and American), hamburgers, potato salad, and so on. Later Else said she is bringing the food but we need to find someone else to bring the soft drinks and beer and to do the grilling of food. Treasurer Liva offered to help Else with the picnic and Karen said that our new members Ernesto and Olga also want to help. Our records show that we had about 60 people attend the picnic last year and we are hoping for the same this year. Several games for the kids and adults were talked about, such as volleyball, sack race, badminton, egg in spoon race, water balloons, horse shoe throwing, rolling pin and fish throwing. Sports Director Aage Halvorsen is in charge of games and activities at the picnic. Our May 12th social meeting at President Karen's home was also discussed. It was decided that it should start at 3:00 p.m. and everyone who wants to go swimming in the pool needs to bring their own towels. We also might need to rent chairs or borrow from VFW. Our new member Ernesto Garcia would like to be the bartender. More will be discussed in the next board meeting. Since the goal this year is for each member to sign up another new member, Karen, Liva and Laila decided to sign up 3 new members. Setting up a new cruise trip was also discussed and Karen said she knows someone who can look into options for us. President Karen brought up that doing interviews with new members in the newsletter is a great idea and a fun way to welcome them into our lodge and at the same time get feedback about the lodge and its activities. Some of the questions could be about how they heard about us, why they were interested in joining, what they have gained by becoming a member, what they can contribute with to the lodge and so on. Gerd made a motion to have people sign in with Peggy at the door when they arrive to our socials. President Karen volunteered to make her a signup sheet, where they can also add their email addresses. That way we can send them the newsletter by email. And for those who do not have email, we will continue to send them a copy through the mail. This way we will have a record of who comes to the socials and also cut costs on mailing newsletters to our members. This was approved and 2nd. On National Day of Climate Action April 14th Laila will be at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park to promote environmental awareness and Sons of Norway. Liva, Suzan and possibly Gerd said they would be there also. We want more people to join us also. Next Board Meeting was set for Wednesday April 25th and everyone is welcome! Suzan Secretary |
