Attendees: President Karen, Laila, Gerd, Liva, Jan Nataas, Peggy, Irene, Else and Susan.
Karen thanked everyone for such a great social in January for our Installation Dinner. Peggy reported we had 45 attend with 3 guests (not paying). Half were guests that Jan Nataas brought in and we hope to get them to join. We made $782.00- less expenses of $550.00 so our PROFIT was $232.00.
Peggy got a form from corporate headquarters for Tore Skroder, who is a new member. There are also two other people who have signed up on the website. She also mentioned that the date of the picnic is wrong- it shows it for Saturday April 28, but it is supposed to be for Sunday April 29. Karen will call Leif to make sure it is reserved for Sunday. Peggy also mentioned that our Socials are on the 4th Saturday now, but they have always been on the 3rd Saturday. Laila is going to check with VFW (Kelly) to make sure that we have the right Saturday's reserved. And the dates were good.
Karen announced she will be going to Springfest in Titusville March 16-18th. The deadline to sign up is March 5th. No one else of the board members present will be going. We are still checking other places to have our monthly social and nothing has been decided yet.
February's Grieg and Valentine's Social on February 24th: Karen is making her famous Salmon and boiled potatoes. Else will make the cucumber salad. Laila is waiting to receive a video tape of Edvard Grieg to show at the Social. Karen will bring Grieg music.
Laila read the previous BOD minutes and several things were discussed during the reading of this. March 3rd is the walkathon for the animals at 8am Downtown Ft. Lauderdale (Esplande Park) March 24th is the Cultural and Animal Awareness social with Norwegian open sandwiches. Sunday April 29th is the picnic at Heritage Park in Plantation. On May 12th we will be at President Karen's home for 17 Mai and have a barbeque and pool party. We talked about getting the Elvis impersonator for the Halloween social.
Karen talked about setting up a time when she can go to the schools and read Troll books to children. We talked about adding a profile of our members in the newsletter, 750 words or less and decided on Leif Kristoffersen for the next issue. We also talked about passing a sheet of paper around at each social and getting everyone's email address. That way we can send guests our newsletter each month in hoping to get them to sign up as a member. Getting more boosters and ads was talked about. Laila will check on guidelines to submit pictures to Viking magazine. We talked about adding birthdays in the newsletter. Jan will find out if the ballroom dancing place wants to advertize with us.
Treasurer report: Gerd is signing everything over to Liva. They will be meeting at the bank on Saturday morning February 10th to sign her in. Gerd reported there is $979.00 in Savings, $3,026.60 in Checking We also have a CD for $6,000.00 that has earned $77.15 in interest which will mature February 21 and Liva will move it to a money market account. Gerd said that the board had previously decided to donate $150 for Ski for Light for 200, but she was missing the paperwork for it. Karen will look for this.
The board voted and decided to return the checks that were donated to the making of new member address books.
Else said everyone is welcome to help decorate for the next social at 9AM on Saturday February 24th.
