| Board Meeting Minutes November 28th, 2006 by Laila Attendees: Erik, Karen, Leif, Irene, Jan N., Gerd, Laila, Aage Hansen Before opening the meeting, President Aage Hansen brought up the fact that Third District loses 30 members every month and that it is every member's responsibility to change this. He suggested that each member get one new member, that way we have the potential to double our memberships. He got one email reply from George Teigland. Laila and Irene will post the president's email on the web site and in the newsletter. Karen suggested she can make diplomas for people who get new members. Laila will follow up on newsletters being returned and promote the new Scandinavian center and that a membership gives 10% discount at Norwill. |

| The president officially opened the meeting. Treasurer Gerd reported that she got one $10 booster from Ruth Eikevik and that the money we got in from the Meatball dinner was just barely over the amount we had in expenses. She reported that our lodge has $2336.03 in the checking account, $958 in the savings account, and $6000 in CD's. President Aage will forward his email with CD account number to Gerd. We approved a $160 bill from Suzan for the Troll books. President Aage made a motion to send flowers to Andy Willemsen because he had a surgery this week. The motion was voted and approved. Aage called Liva Willemsen to see if she has the flag and she did. She will pass it on to Willy Hansen so he can bring it to the Christmas Dinner on December 16th. President Aage left a CD with the national anthems with Laila to print out lyrics for the dinner. He also left the Ski for Light and Barna's Norsk Klubb envelopes with Karen. He made a motion to donate $150 to Ski for Light and that was voted on and approved. The member address books will cost $1.50 per book and $200 for ink and labels to make. We have several old checks from sponsors for the address books and it was discussed if these should be returned. If we decide to not make new address book we will keep a digital list to distribute and printouts can be available per request. Jan Nataas will be keeping these checks until January when the new board of directors will decide on this issue. We discussed the need to fill several of the board positions for next year and that it is possible for one person to fill ore than one position but we cannot technically combine the positions. We nominated these people, which will be voted on during the December 16th dinner: President: Dr. Karen Engebretsen, Vice President: Leif Kristoffersen, Treasurer/Historian: Liva Wilemsen, Secretary: Suzan Van Handel, Counselor: Erik Iversen, Editor/Publicity Director/Webmaster: Laila Fosse, Social Director: Else Springer, Sports Director/trustee: Aage Halvorsen, Foundation Director/Assistant Social Director: Jan Nataas, Financial Secretary: Peggy Ellefsen, Marshall: Gerd Foss and Irene Whist, Indoor guard: Ingrid Fine. Everyone who gets voted in must get familiar with the responsibilities of their position by reading the booklets, which Laila and Jan Nataas will find in the boxes and binders. Nominations will be posted in the newsletter and that way all members have a chance to make other nominations before the voting. After the vote, the list needs to be sent to the SON headquarters. Karen brought up a question about having to be Norwegian to become a member. She was told that one does not have to have any direct links to Norway to become a SON member. She also said that for future board meetings she would request we meet on Monday or Wednesday evenings instead because of her job. We also discussed the fact that ALL members are welcome to participate in the board meetings. Irene said she had talked to Senior Pastor Dag Magnus Hopstock Havgar and they talked about the fundraising for the new Scandinavian center and Seamen's Church in Pembroke Pines. There will be a Scandinavian Open 2006 golf tournament December 3rd to raise money for this. The 2007 meeting dates were discussed. The theme is the anniversary of Edvard Grieg. We set the dates of the meetings to be January 27 (Installation of officers), February 24, March 24, April 28 (Picnic), May 12, September 22, October 27, November 17, and December 15. The first board meeting will be January 10 or 11. The Christmas Dinner will start at 6PM on the 16th because there will be a lot of kids. It was discussed that we need a greeter at the door to make people feel welcome. This could be the responsibility of the Marshall. Other responsibilities of the Marshall are to initiate the singing of the National anthem, carry the flags and announce the guests. We need to ask during the meeting for volunteers to help wash dishes after the dinner. Else will bring party shot glasses. Jan Nataas is going to bring the 30-year pins, 2 bottles of Akevitt and Christmas music. Gerd and Laila are also bringing music and song lyrics. Irene will ask the Seamen's Church if they have songbooks for sale. We will announce in the newsletter that if anyone needs a ride to the dinner they can call Karen at her office number and we can arrange that. The price will be $15 and free for children. We are expecting around 60 people. Aage Halvorsen will buy the food and prepare it. Leif will be Santa Claus. Karen suggested having nametags. Everyone will contribute desserts and gifts to raffle away. Gerd, Else and Laila and anyone else who has time will meet at 9 AM to help set up the tables. |
