~GIGBOX 3~

by Peter Lau - 05/04/2004

After few months of experimenting, at last i worked out the new GIGBox, GIGBox3. here it is...

GIGBox 3 (front)
FRONT: GIGBox 3 (Left)
GIGBox 3 (back)
BACK: GIGBox 3 (Right)

The reasons to redesign and make this New GIGBox are as follows:-

(a) Since the 1st version looks like a box type, which I think it's ok. But for travelling, it's a bit too big to carry and difficult to fit into the back of car trunk.

(b) The New GB doesn't has this problem anymore, cause the Snare and bass are separated and easy to carry.

(c) The old GB's snare can only produce one sound.

(d) The Snare on the New GB is smaller and produces 2 sounds:-

1 you can play like normally drum by using Brushes/Rute.

2 you also can use your Hand/finger to play it like 'PERCUSSION"(CONGA). There's one "Blue" square spot on the Snare, which you can use finger/ Mallet to play. It sounds like Hi Conga. The addition small Djembe is just to add-in more sounds. It also look cute on the GB!

(e) I decided to make the Bass Box more towards like a real bass drum. This time the Bass sounds better. The volume is louder and it sounds like 16" bass drum now. I can even use DOUBLE PEDAL which the old one can't do! Because the its pedal is fixed inside the Box. Since the Music that we play are more towards Light Jazz. So I prefer the Tone on the Bass drum is on the Med Tone. It's sound really good when playing together with the Guitar and Bass.

GIGBOX & COCKTAIL DRUM

GB&CT

Basically, GIGBOX is based on the COCKTAIL DRUM concept. When I put the snare on the Stand together with Cymbal, Djembe and Remote Hi-hat, Now, the whole new GB looks more like drumset. It looks "cool"!

When I compare it with a cocktail drumset, you can see both drumsets in fact are the same. The only thing difference is the snare/ bass' shape; one is round, the other one is square.

~ I guess you may wonder where is the GIGBox 2? Please click here.
