Castles have always infatuated me, and Wales seemed to be filled with them.  During my stay in England, we rented a car, and toured through a bit of northwest Wales.
I, who had not driven a car since 1997, got behind the wheel on the opposite side of the car, shifting gears with my left hand, and driving on the left side of the road.  All the while getting used to the round-abouts and very narrow, curvey Welsh roads.  Only a scuffed wheel, I'm happy to report.
We travelled to Carnafern, and visited the Carnafern Castle, which was built by King Edward I (I think).  This castle was where Prince Charles became a Prince.  The castle is still in remarkable condition, and definitely met the criteria for a medevel castle...Cold, wet, dark and dreary.  I loved it.  How something this grand could have been built with the tools of the time are beyond me.
Although it rained both days we toured through Wales, the countryside was beautiful.  A vibrant green carpet that has hosted a long, proud, turbulent history.
