Floating Market ~
Back to Main
Back to Mekong Delta
Back to Vietnam
Vietnamese from all across the Mekong seemed to congregate here, forming the largest traffic jam on a river I have ever witnessed.
The main items for sale seemed to be fruits and vegetables that each family grew themselves, in bulk, then came here and either traded, or cut deals with other farmers for their goods.
The place was alive with excitement, as a flurry of Vietnamese was being handed out on all occasions.
A yell here could be to toss them a few watermelons or carrots.  Another yeowlp there was for the smaller boat to get it's keel out of the way!!  A cluster of boats, food and humanity is the best way to describe this experience on the Mekong.
A fascinating method of advertising was employed at the floating market.  Each boat would place a long bamboo pole upright, and hang the vegetables or fruit they were selling on it.  It not only made a convenient way to display your goods, but made for a very picturesque and colorful atmosphere.
