Eleventh President of the Church, he died young, after only a year as President, which surprised the whole Church. Sister Freda Joan Lee stood the morning after her husband, President Harold B. Lee, passed away. It was the season of Christmas 1973. Sister Lee sobbed and said, "The world is mourning a prophet, but I have lost my husband. And I have had him such a short time." After his death Elder Russell M. Nelson was visited by President Lee twice after his death, the first was too sacred to repeat, but the second was concerning his untimely death.He told Elder Nelson that he had contracted a physical illness that would amount to an incredible amount of pain and not only an embarrassment to himself but to the entire Church, and so the Savior spared him this misfortunate death. |
