Ancient Voices: Bringing the Greeks to Life in the Classroom with Poetry and the Art of the Mask

During this lively workshop participants will learn how to use Readers’ Theater, poetry and the 20,000-year-old art of the mask to bring the gods and goddesses to life in the classroom. The presentation includes a masked performance by the author, Readers’ Theater choral demonstrations, poetry exercises and a mask-making activity.  Participants will construct poster board replicas of the large copper and leather masks used by the author in performance. These inexpensive, easy-to-make art pieces work well in a variety of classroom projects, enriching the studies of Latin and Greco-Roman mythology.
