Whats going on Theresa?  Your mind is off, wandering I would guess.  I just glanced up at the man.  I sighed and turned away.  I looked out the window and crossed my arms.
No life is perfect, Im well aware of that fact, but you try to make it prefect.  You get things all together and then everything you worked for, falls apart.  And in a sense, you dont know why.  Thats what my life did.  My past, in other words, is coming back to haunt me.
Im not sure Im following you.
Richard, theres a lot I havent told you.  And Im very sorry for holding it from you.
What is it?  I glanced around the office I knew I was going to miss.  But like I said, things just tend to fall apart.
I used to be in a gang.  I mean, I was like the leader of this gang.  An old friend of mine finally got me out of it.  But my gang, it truly had many rivals.  In fact, it was known for their damn rivals.  We werent a bad gang and everyone wanted us to be evil.  Our arch-rival has come back to haunt me.  On my desk is a note from him.  I closed my eyes and pictured that last time I saw him.
---I walked over to the bench hoping he would come out.  I saw him finally leaving the building.  He glanced around and was in shock to see me.  My gang followed me over to him.
Johnny, do we need to talk? I asked.  He just looked around and finally just shook his head.
Such as Tere?
Look you son of a bitch, no one fucks around with me or my gang and assumes they can get away with it.
What are you talking about Tere?  I havent done jack shit!
Lisa, what did he do to you?
Well, lets see.  He hit me, he shoved me into the wall, and then..
Enough, Johnny called out.
Thanks. Brian, Neil, take care of him.  I turned back around and started walking away.  I started looking around, sensing someone was looking at us.
Tere, is something up? Jules asked me.
No, Ill be right back okay?  I walked over to this building, hoping no one was around.  I glanced around, and didnt see anyone.  Finally, as I turned to leave, I heard a voice call out.
Have you changed that much? the voice asked.
Excuse me?
You heard me.  This man stepped out from the shadows.  He had blue eyes and blond hair and looked vaguely familiar.
Why the hell do you care Carter? I asked him.  He looked at me and just sighed.
Now, Theresa, thats a fucking stupid question to ask me.  You were my best friend
WERE, being the key word, I told him, cutting him off.
So, answer my question.  Why the streets?
Fuck Nick.  Not everyone is as lucky as you.  You had a family, the money, and the job.  As for me, my mom died when you left and then my dad took out all his anger on me.  You know me.  Would I have stood for any of that shit?
No, really, you wouldnt have.
Thanks.  So, I ran away and fall in with this gang.  They were nice and everyone cared.  I looked away as I heard a babys voice crying out.  I sighed at the sound.  Listen, I have go get going.  I started walking away but he grabbed my hand.  He turned me around and then I felt his lips on mine.  Finally, he released my lips but kept his hands at my waist, which he put during the kiss.  I just looked at him, shocked.  I felt a little kids hand in mine.  I looked down and saw my son.  He just looked at me and shook his head.  Whats that for Roberto?
Daddy isnt going to like that, he said.  I just smile at him.
Daddy isnt going to know, right?  He just looked at me, smiled at Nick and nodded his head.
Thanks honey.  Nick, I really have to get going
Nope, he said, cutting me off.  He lifted me up, threw me over his shoulder, grabbed Roberto and took us to the other side of the alley.
Nick, you better fucking put me down, I yelled.  I know there was no way he would, but at least I could try.  Finally, as we reached the other end, he put us down.  I reached over for my son, but he wouldnt let go of Nick.  Fine, I mumbled.  I looked at the limo that was in front of me.  Oh, yeah, the Boys are with him, I told myself.  Just as I thought, the door opened and out came two young men.
Nick, who is she? the guy with the glasses asked.
Oh, you guys, this is Theresa.  Theresa, this is AJ.  And the other one is Howie.  I just smiled at AJ.  As I turned to look at Howie, I lost my breath.  Damn, hes fine, I thought.
Mommy, Auntie Jules is coming, Roberto said.  I tore my eyes away from Howie to glance behind me.  I saw Jules coming with three of my gang members.
What the fuck is going on Tere? Jules asked.
Nothing.
Theresa, explain all this shit right now, she told me.  I just looked at her, wondering where she the hell she got all this courage from.  She noticed me looking at her and she took a step back.
Thats what I thought, I said.
So, Nick, when did you start running with gang members? Howie asked.
God Howie, I dont run with them.  She used to be my best friend, Nick answered.
Whatever, look, I have to go.  Ill see ya around.  I reached for Roberto but he just clung to Nick.  Come on baby, lets go, please.  Dont you want to go see Uncle Neil and Uncle Brian? I asked him.  He just shook his head.
Looks like he knows, Jules said.  I just threw her a look and she smiled back.
Knows what? Nick asked.
Nothing, come on, baby, we dont have time for this.
What do you mean? Jules asked me.
Girl, once Rickys clan knows what happened, you know they are going to be stupid enough to come after us.  And I dont want to get tangled up in this fight.  Its just to stupid.  I got tired of Roberto staying with Nick, so I grabbed his arm and pulled him with me.  The instant he let go of Nick, he started crying.
Hold up, how old is Roberto? AJ asked.  I stopped walking and turned around.
Hes going to be four years in three months.
No, wait, let me look at him, AJ said.
What for? I asked.
Just because he looks a lot like Nick.  My eyes opened wide and I just shook my head.
No, really, we have to get going, Im not kidding.
Theresa, it isnt, is it? Nick asked.  I looked at him and at that instant I heard shots ring out from the other side of the alley.
Nick, take Roberto and Jules, get in the limo, and Jules can tell you where they can be dropped off at.  Then get your asses as far away as possible, I said, pulling out my gun and checking it.
