I want more though.� I smiled down at Pollyanna. �Okay, okay, what would you like to know now?� �You two were dating, how he proposed.� I thought it over for a moment and just pictured the day. �Very well Dwayne. It lifted my skirt up and I smiled. Such a wonderful Spring day. The flowers were in bloom and it scented the air. I sat the picnic basket down and Howie sat down the CD player. He smiled at me and drew me in his arms. �How are you baby?� �Just wonderful. It�s such a perfect day.� He kissed the tip of my nose and I smiled again. �You know I love you, right?� �Of course.� �Good, cause I do.� I just shook my head and turned and looked around me. �How did you know about this place?� �Oh, one of my friends owns the cabin over there. This is actually his land. Paid quite a bit of money, but when he needs to get away, it�s perfect. So, he said he�d be nice and let us stay here.� I just turned and raised my eyebrow at him. �What?� �Nothing honey.� I sat down on the blanket that Howie unfolded and let the sun beat down on me. It felt so good. I heard Howie say he would be right back and just nodded my head. I didn�t want to leave this wonderful place. I covered my eyes and slowly drifted off to a little nap. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ �Grandma! I want to hear him say the words.� �Pollyanna, I have to set the scene. You know the words they say. But, it�s always more than that. Now, let me finish, please?� �Please, go on Grandma,� Dwayne said. �Thank you. Now, where was I? I glanced up at him, dazed. �Aren�t you hungry?� �Wow, how long have I been asleep.� �Just about an hour. This has that effect.� �I�m sorry sweetie. We didn�t come out here to sleep though. We came out here cause it�s romantic and peaceful and a perfect place to spend our anniversary together.� �That�s true, but I know you need your rest.� I smiled and gave him a kiss. He set out the food and I just watched him. Life was different now that he was a major part of my life. I had a feeling though that something was up. Lately, he seemed distant. I�m not sure why, just a gut instinct. �Earth to Jennifer.� �Sorry, just watching you.� �Why?� �Cause you�re so damn fine.� He laughed and poured us some wine. �I do try you know.� I just took a sip of wine, knowing I would say something. We ate, talking about our jobs. Not that we really didn�t know. After I started dating Howie, I got in the music business, just to be close to him. I thanked him cause he helped me. But, our lives always crossed, so we knew what each one was doing. After we ate, he pulled me up against him and we listened to the local station. Slow jams were on, you know those love songs. I heard him softly singing and it made me feel good inside. I could listen to him for hours on end. I sighed, content. Than he asked me to move. I froze, scared. �You okay?� �Yeah.� �Good. Than I have to talk to you.� �Oh Lord, I know it, we�re over,� I thought. �You know I love you more than anything.� �Great, that�s how he begins this.� �And you know I dream of our life together.� �And the wound gets deeper.� �This is hard to say. I had this all planned out, but with you right here, looking like a goddess, it�s so hard.� �You�re making it worse Howie.� He reached into this pocket and drew out a little box. �Jennifer, I can�t be with anyone but you. No one has made me feel like you do. Please say you�ll be my wife.� I coughed and opened my eyes wide. I threw my arms around Howie. �God, yes, yes, yes!� He laughed and kissed me. All passion, love, understanding, and caring, put into that kiss. �You were thinkin� I was going to say something else?� �I thought you wanted to end us.� �Never in a million years baby.� I kissed him once again, sealing our love, making sure it was complete. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ �Is that it Grandma?� Dwayne asked. �Oh, sweetie, that�s never it,� I said. �I want to hear more.� �Pollyanna, tomorrow night, I promise, I explain how, our wedding and our kids, your parents.� �How did Uncle AJ and Auntie Theresa get married?� she asked. �Oh, that�s another story in itself baby. Just another night when you guys stay over.� I laughed and tucked them into bed. I gave them a kiss and watched as they dozed off. I felt a hand on my waist and turned around. �Hey sweetie.� �Hi.� He gave me a hug and we walked into the living room. Long after our marriage, our kids were born, and we got old, we settled in. We loved just being with one another, watching TV, a movie, listening to music, whatever it may be. But, we were always holding hands. Maybe love does come only once. But whatever the case, I knew I had my soul mate. |
