| *We all know that back in the time, they did not speak English, but for fear of messing up in translating, Im just going to write it in English, except the names* You guys, look at this necklace, its wonderful, right? That was your grandmothers? I suppose Nick. I fingered the necklace feeling the weight and watching the gems sparkle in the sunlight. You could make quite a bit of money on that girl. I glanced up at Brian. Im not going to sell it. Youre going to keep it? Howie asked. Of course. She gave this to me. I sighed, enchanted with this piece of work. I flipped it over, gazing at the gold used on it. On the back of the biggest gem, I saw a picture. My fingers moved over it, feeling more than just one picture. I closed my eyes, feeling a strong emotion in me. And just as quickly I opened them again, feeling nothing now. Odd. What is baby? This necklace. It has pictures on the back of the ruby. Look. I handed the piece to Howie and he examined it. How old is this? I dont know. I never saw my grandmother wear it. I havent seen pictures like this in a while. Those are ancient Egyptian writings, Kevin said, looking at it over Howies shoulder. No way, Brian said. Im almost certain. But dont take my word. Let me see, I said. Howie handed me the necklace. I walked over to the sunlight and looked at it. Im getting it appraised tomorrow. Ill go with you honey. Thanks D. Come on you guys, my stomach is growling. The guys laughed and headed out. I locked the necklace away and glanced around the attic. I miss you grandma. I smiled and walked over to the door. I glanced behind me as I heard a click. I saw the jewelry box open and I frowned. I could have sworn I locked it. I locked it again and walked back to the door. I froze as another click sounded through the attic. I slowly turned around and saw the box open again. I walked over to it and picked it up. I froze, feeling a presence in the room. Baby? I screamed and quickly turned around. Dont do that. He just smiled at me. Im sorry. Are you coming? Of course. I put the box in my purse and walked out of the attic. I sat down at the table and I felt Howie place his hand on my thigh. I smiled at him and glanced at Kevin. What made you think it was the old writing? I saw a special on the Discovery Channel last week about the tombs and the writing. Those pictures just reminded me of them. And they looked exactly the same. Hmm, thats odd. Did your grandma ever visit Egypt? Howie asked. No, the furthest she went is Mexico. In fact, as far back as I know, nobody went over there. Theres no reason too. Plus, going was just to expensive. With that necklace, I dont think anyone cared about money, Nick said. I glanced at him and frowned. Youre right. How did we come about with that, Im not sure. Its been in the family? Brian asked. Yeah. Everything she gave me was in the family. Heirlooms, all of them. I just cant believe that would be. Again, we had no reason to go to Egypt. Maybe it was won, like in a game, Kevin suggested. Something that big, heavy and beautiful? If they lost it, then they owed my family quite a bit. Whose to say, huh? Nick said. Very true. Unless you start experiencing dreams about your past life, like in the Mummy Returns, Brian said, joking. I smiled and shook my head. Thats not possible, right? The guys just looked at me and we all busted out laughing. I opened the box and pulled the necklace out. I walked over to my mirror and held it up to my neck. I watched it sparkle, holding the light. Without thinking, I placed the necklace around my neck and fell in love with it. Against the brown skin, the Rubies, the Sapphires and the Emeralds stood out. Even the gold sparkled. I sighed, not believing it was mine. Stop, take it off, its not yours. I turned around, knowing I heard a voice. Whos there? I called out. My eyes roamed all over my room. Who the hell is there? After a while, I gave up, thinking my mind was playing tricks on me. I stared back in the mirror, fingering the necklace, finally feeling the weight. Just take it off. It doesnt look right on you. He doesnt love you. Once again, I looked around my room. Who doesnt love me? Howie? He does too. Theresa? I turned to my door and saw Howie standing there. What? Who are you talking to? No one I guess. I swear Howie, I heard voices. Theresa, has something gotten into you? No, why do you say that? Just wondering. Are you going to bed? Yeah. By the way, that necklace looks wonderful on you. It radiates your beauty even more. I turned to him and kissed him. Thank you. He lifted my hair up and unsnapped my necklace. I slid it off and put it back in the box. I locked it and changed into my clothes. I climbed into bed and felt Howies arms wrap around my stomach. He pulled me close against him and I smiled to myself. ~*~*~* I stared at the endless sand and sighed. The soft breeze went through my hair, tossing it up around my face. I wrote down on the tablet the problem that was biggest to the Pharaoh right now, his Queen. What are you doing? I glanced at the High Priest and down at the tablet. Doing something for the Pharaoh. |
