No, I didnt do that Howie. I rolled my eyes over the phone and glanced out my window, seeing a car pull up. He, well, he was just a jerk, I had to learn the hard way. I heard a knock and sighed. Excuse me D, someone is at the door. I laid down the phone and answered the door. Ms. Lambe? I stared at the officer standing in front of me. Yes, sir. I have to place you under arrest for the murder of a mister Richard Jameson. Excuse me? Did you not place him in the hospital? Yes, but it was in self defense. My lawyer said the charges were dropped. For the case. Now its murder. Im on the phone, can I least tell him bye? Go ahead. Howie, I have to go. Ill call you when I get there. Bye. I hung up the phone, not even giving him a chance to speak. You can call him back when you get to the station. I nodded my head, turned my back and felt them place the cuffs on me. I sighed and walked out to the awaiting police car. Hello? Howie, its me. Im sorry about earlier. Its okay, what happened? Richard died in the hospital and I got arrested for murder. I wiped the tears away and sighed. Oh, but it was self defense. For the charges, not for murder. My hearing is in a week, than my case, cause Im pleading not guilty. I will be down there. You have a career to think of D. I dont want it stained with this. Fuck that. Theresa, youre one of my best friends who went through a hard time and Ill be there every step of the way with you. I sniffled and closed my eyes. Thanks D. I gotta go, times up. Ill talk to you later. You can bet on it. I hung up and laid my head against the wall, letting the tears flow freely now. Four weeks I sat through the trail, the evil stares, and the questions. I stood my ground, still claiming it was self-defense. But did self-defense have to end in murder? Thats what Richards lawyer was claiming. He wanted me away for life, or at the worst blow, a death penalty. Which, I would have preferred neither. I stood as the judge came back with a verdict. I held my head high, ready to take whatever they gave me. Theresa Lambe, you have been charged with attempted murder and are sentenced to 10 years to life with a chance for parole. Court is adjourned. I turned around and smiled at Howie. He shook his head and blew me a kiss. I followed the men as they took me to bus that was taking me to my new home. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* I stepped out of the prison and squinted up at the sun. I clutched my jacket tighter around me and walked to the gate. Ill You wont see me later David. Im staying clear of this place. Good choice. Wish ya the best. He opened the gate and I stepped out, savoring the breath of freedom. Five years was far too long to be in a place like that. I closed my eyes, forgetting it if I could, about that place. Hey, you, you look lost. I screamed and ran to him. God, its so good to see you. I hugged him and he kept me close. Ive missed you girl. You look different outside of orange. Youve lost weight. Well, you dont get over fed in that place. Theres no buffets. Thanks for picking me up D. Well, hell, you got sent to Miami, the least I can do is pick up one of my friends. I have to call my mom, I need a place to stay, place to live, clothes. Well, youre mom is away. I rolled my eyes and nodded my head. I forgot, her honeymoon. Youre gonna stay with me. I have a three bedroom house, were going shopping tomorrow, the works. I cant pay you back and thats too much. He grabbed my hand and led me to his car. Youre my best friend, friends do that for one another. I smiled and climbed into the seat, closing my eyes as he took us to his place. I sat down on the couch and curled my legs underneath me. Does Paula know about me? Know what, exactly? That you had an unfair trial and got charged with attempted murder and sent to a maxim prison camp? Something like that. Yes, she knows. And she still welcomes you as her daughter. He sat down with a beer in his hand. The guys dont know. He stared straight ahead and took a swig. Why dont they know. Well, they didnt know howthey didnt know I was talking to you to begin with. Oh. I mean, there would have been questions and more questions, and assumptions. I didnt want to put you in that mix. Thats fine. I dont mind. I smiled and held back a yawn. Youre tired, we should get you to bed. Its been a hectic day. I stood up and placed my hand on his shoulder. Thanks a lot, Howie, for everything. Youre one of my best friends. These days, theyre few and wide for me. So, BSB is on its down time. In other words.. Were being lazy. I took a sip of the water that was placed in front of me and nodded my head. Of course. After working for like 8 years, you can be lazy. Were just concerned with the fans of course. Well, theyll love you no matter what. How can you be so sure? Eh, I used to be one. Well, still am one, I guess. Knowing you certainly hasnt changed my mind much. Can we join you? I turned around and saw none other than the four remaining Backstreet Boys. Guys, go ahead. Theresa, this is Brian, AJ, Nick and the quiet one is Kevin. A pleasure, gentlemen. They smiled and took the seats. |
