Shannon, you wont believe what my dance teacher just told me? I told Shannon.
What did she say?
Oh, that the Boys are coming to the University of Kentucky to pick one more dancer for their tour.
So?  I mean thats good but what does this have to do with you?
I have an audition!
Are you serious?
Yes.  Im not sure Ill make it, but Ill give it my best shot.
Well, I have to head out to my next class, but Ill call ya later.  I want all the details.
Fine. Bye.
Bye.  I heard a dial tone so I hung up the phone.  I just told my best friend since my freshman year, her sophomore year, in high school that our favorite group, the Backstreet Boys, were going to my college to pick a dancer.  I was in shock when the teacher told me she signed me up.  Her exact words were you are the number one dancer in this school.  Why wouldnt you want to do something like this?   I walked to my bedroom and looked in the mirror.  I was 56, with light brown eyes and shoulder length black hair.  I doubted that I would get to dance with the boys.  But then again, I never really had faith in myself.  I was always shocked whenever someone had faith in me.  I just kept looking in the mirror and finally I heard the phone ringing.
Hello?
Hey girl.
Hey Shannon.  I thought you had a class?
I did but it got canceled.  So, tell me everything.
OK.  My teacher, Lynn, told me that the Boys were having dancers for their next tour.  She said that both Kevin and Brian wanted to choose someone from their home state.  So, they decided on picking someone from the University.  She said that they were holding auditions next Saturday.  So, she signed me up.
Wow.  Do you have a routine?  Do you know who youll be dancing with?
I have to go talk with Lynn tonight.  Shes going to show me what Im doing.  As for the dancer, yeah, I know.
Thats cool.  So, who is it?
Girl, youre going to kill me.
Who?  Wait, it cant be.
Yup.  With my old friend, Alexander.
You cant do that.
Why?  If I do make it, which Im sure I wont, then you know Ill make sure your two met.
Yeah, I know.  I glanced at my clock, it read 6:35.
Hey Shannon.  I have to get going.  Want me to call you back when I get home?  It could be late.
Thats cool.  But yeah, I want to know what youll be doing.
Okay then.  Ill call ya later Mrs.McLean.
Funny.  But Mrs.Dorough.  I laughed as I hung up the phone.  I havent been called that in a long time.  Shannon and I used to call each other that all the time but we kind of stopped.  I guess we grew up.  Yeah right! NOT US!  I grabbed my bag and headed to my car.  I needed to warm up before I started to dance.  I reached the room around 7:10.  I walked in and saw Lynn getting things set up.
Hi Lynn.  How are you?
Fine.  And you?
Im fine.  I just talked to Shannon.  She wished me luck.
Thats good.  Do you want to warm up some?
Yeah.  Give me 15 minutes.  I went to go change and get ready.  I entered the room again and begun my warm ups.  They just basically consisted of stretches and a few twists and turns.  Okay, show me, I said, walking over to Lynn.
Well, I have a few dances.  But I was thinking of mixing some things together.  And I was wondering if you wanted to do it with anybody?  Or did you want to do it on your own?
I would like to do it on my own.
Okay.  Let me think.  Okay, try this, she said.  She put the music on and did a little dance.  I watched and after she was done, I did the exact move.  We went like this for the next four hours and finally I was done.  And I had come up with a dance.  Any song you would like to do this too? Lynn asked me.
How about Roll With It?
Is it going to work?
Why dont we try it tomorrow around 10:00?
Tomorrows Saturday.  Are you sure you want to give it up?
Anything to met my Boys.
Okay then.  Ill see you tomorrow.  Good night.  She gave me a hug and picked up the stereo.  I saw her grab her bag and walk out.  I went over to my stuff and picked it up and just thought.  Am I sure I can do this.  I dont think I can.  But I will totally give it my best shot.  I walked to my car and as soon as I got in, I pulled out the Boys.  I popped in their European CD in the CD player and played Roll With It.  Oh yeah.  The dance would be perfect, I thought.  I walked into my house and put my stuff in my room.  I looked over at the time.  It read 11:30.  I walked over to my phone and called Shannon.
Hello? the person on the other end grumbled.
Hi Rachel.  Sorry to wake you.  Is Shannon around?
Oh hi Theresa.  Let me guess, you came back from dancing?
Yeah.  How could you tell?
Youre to damn hyper.  Anyway, Shannon went out.  She should be back around 1:00 or so.  Do you want her to call you?
No, thats okay.  I dont want to wake Ramon up?
Are you two going out yet?
What?  Oh, God no.  It would be like going out with my brother.
I see.  Anyway, Im going back to bed.
Oh sorry.  I really didnt mean to wake you.  Bye Rachel.
Talk to you later Theresa.  I hung up the phone and just looked at the time.  Five till 12:00.
Where have you been? a voice asked from behind me.  I turned around and looked at Ramon.
I had a dance practice.
This late at night?  I looked at him and just smiled.
You think I was out dont you?  Why would I go out in my dance clothes?  For the first time he looked at what I was wearing.  I rest my case.
Yeah yeah. Im going back to bed.  See ya in the morning.
Wait, I wont be here at 10:00.
