| �So, that�s what happened,� I said, laying myself down on Theresa�s couch. �Ouch. No wonder why he stormed into my house and told me to leave that way he could talk to AJ.� �He did what?� �Just to talk.� I laughed and looked over at Jennifer. �Look, Howie was shocked. I mean, if you look at his point, you can see why he got upset.� �You�re supposed to be on my side.� �I am. Look, just look at his side. You tell him to leave his girlfriend and then he asks why and you tell him to date you. You never even let on you liked him. And then you just come out and say it? What did you want? Him to lean over and give one endearing kiss?� �I didn�t mean to say anything.� �You know, I�ll let you in on a secret. Howie likes you too. But he�s scared. He knows you haven�t had the best love life and he doesn�t want to hurt you or he himself doesn�t want to get hurt.� �But he won�t. Look at you and AJ.� �Tell him that. He�s coming over tonight for dinner.� �Oh great. Thank you Theresa.� She rolled her eyes and got off of the couch. �I�m going to go take a shower.� I stood on the back deck, looking out over the beach. I sighed and just took a sip of my wine. I rubbed the back of my neck and then ran my hand through my hair. �Hi,� I heard someone say from behind me. I rolled my eyes but just stared straight ahead. �Okay, so you�re not going to talk to me?� �Nope.� �So you will talk?� �Maybe.� �Mmhmm.� He sat down next to me and looked at me. �Jennifer?� I looked over at him and he just stared at me. �What Howie?� �I wanted to say I�m sorry. I�ve done a lot of thinking.� �So have I. I�m sorry for what I said. I blurted it out just to make sure you wouldn�t be hurt. But after I thought about it, I was also going to hurt you too. So, just forget whatever I told you.� I quickly got up out of my seat and started running along the beach. I felt the tears run down my cheeks and took a chance to look behind me. Howie was running after me. I started running faster but soon felt someone tackle me. I landed on the sand, face down. I closed my eyes and steadied my breathing. Howie quickly turned me around so I could look at him. �Okay, now you�ve said what you wanted to say, I�m going to say what I wanted to say. You�re wrong. I won�t get hurt by you because I believe we finally found a love that was based upon friendship first. Those girls I dated were nothing compared to you. I�ve never felt such at ease as when I�m with you. I�m always trying to prove I�m a human being around other girls. But with you, I could be myself. I didn�t need to impress you. And when you told me to date you, I was shocked. I walked to the same spots we first did and realized that only with you would I still be able to love and not impress. You knew me for me and I couldn�t ask for anything more then that.� He gazed in my eyes and I just stared back. His hand ran along my cheek and his fingers ran over my lips. �Let me show you that love can be something wonderful and not heart wrenching.� His head slowly dipped down and his lips came upon mine. I closed my eyes and ran my hand through his hair. I felt the waves come around our legs, around our bodies, but it didn�t bother me. Soon, my mind cleared from everything, but Howie. I rubbed my hands down his back, and felt his skin on fire. �Are you sure you want to do this Howie?� �Jennifer, I couldn�t be more sure of anything. You�re the only one I know I could be happy with.� �And Howie, you�re my angel, my divine angel.� |
