Prairie Rattlesnake

Crotalus viridis

 

A small to large rattlesnake, ranging in lengths of 18" to 63". Base coloration is variable. A series of darker blotches with thin white edges lines the back. Facial markings include dark bars extending back below the eye and a light colored line that extends from the eye to the corner of the mouth. The dark bar often extends across the top of the head between the eyes.

Found in high plateau desert and grassland in Arizona.

Active around the clock when conditions are favorable. Eats mice, birds, and lizards.

This snake is found across the northeastern 1/4 of Arizona
