A secular israeli poem to palestinian people
by: George Murzin

The glorious martyrs you believe in:
The sacrifice, the dream, the bribe.
You kill your own to make us evil,
In eyes of god, the world, your tribe.

You're wrong, there is no god or heaven.
There's fear of pain so dark you cry,
And there is HATE, so deep it BLINDS you,
These are my friends bleeding to die!

You live beside us all this time,
Yet you don't know us, not at all!
WE do not chant, "death to the arabs".
"Look in the mirror now", I call.

Your arab neighbours made these camps,
THEIR war has made you refugees.
We did not start this, didn't want this.
Understand this, please!

We DID withdraw, we armed your army.
We trusted Arafat (a dare).
Your leader lied to us.. and you?
And do you really care?

He was supposed to end the terror,
You were supposed to get a state.
Terror continued, thats the failure!
The offer was no bait.

The borders, they can't really matter,
For strips of land one shouldn't kill.
You'll have your state, we'll have our own:
That is the fairest deal.

Your pride, our pride, both must be filled,
Then flags won't need to burn.
I think the reason this won't happen
Is your "right of return".

To you this dream means blaming us:
Your leader didn't take the deal.
To us this "right" is our destruction!
"Right of return" CANNOT be real.

Our country must be mostly jewish,
the only one for us.
So please accept that, and please NEVER
Shoot at our childrens' bus!

We do not WANT to keep you down,
But we will fight you while you fight.
We target people who attack us.
Child-killing CAN'T be right!

You took the offer as our weakness.
We tried it, and our trust is gone.
We "could" be friends, but we can't trust you,
When all is said and done!

I need to know that you will see that
We're one, but not the same.
You blame all things on our existance..
Bad leaders are to blame!

So tell me, how is peace accomplished?
By lying down, not fighting back?
Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.
The world's not white and black.

We need each other to have countries
where children sing the song of peace,
Where there's no lies in news and schoolbooks.
The hate must cease.

You know that fear of death is weakness.
That's what a fighter knows.
Can you not see you need forgiveness,
So you can understand your foes?

The things you blame us for, you do.
You are the ones that hate.
So turn away from hating us,
Before it is too late!

Your leaders tell you we drink blood,
They tell you hope is broken, gone,
They tell you terrorism will help you:
Lies are many, truth is one.
