I DEDICATE THIS WEB SITE IN MEMORY OF MY BELOVED FATHER
ANTHONY BORG
Welcome and thank you for visiting our web site. My name is John (George)
Borg and it gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the official
representative for La Stella Philharmonic Society in metro Toronto.
My familys long time association with La Stella dates back to the early
1900s when my father (Anthony Borg) played the clarinet as a bandsman,
the whole family along with supportive neighbors was involved in
decorating our street (Vajringa) for the feast of St. George, my brother
(George) was an avid fireworks supporter of the club, where he was most
known for his magnificent workmanship in making shells, my sisters (Nancy
and Maria) dawned in their new dresses would go up on stage to sing the
Grand Hymn of St. George before the procession and last but not least my
brother (Rev. Can. Joseph Borg) a Canon at St. Georges Basilica who has
great love for our patron saint and is a benefactor. Also a special
mention to my first cousin (Mons. Salv Borg) who served at the same
Basilica as one of our favorite Archpriest.
Even though I left Victoria, Gozo as a thirteen year old, the memories
and the never-ending urge towards St. George and La Stella compels me to
try and carry on our traditions here in Canada. I was involved here in
Toronto with Festa San Gorg Association as a Director for 4 years. Now
with this appointment, I fell so honored and Im more than obliged to
carry on my duties.
This year is more special than others being an anniversary year were
Gorgjani from all over will be flocking to our beautiful islands of Malta
and Gozo from late June to mid July for the grandious Feasts of San Gorg.
This is a good time to get reaquinted before the big events. I plan to
have get together once a month and stir up excitment among us so please
browse around and visit again often.
John (George) Borg
