| Well, things have been
interesting the last few weeks. Two cruises ago was an 8-day
cruise, and it started out really poorly. We were following the
path of sub-tropical storm Nicole, so the seas were extremely
choppy. I left rehearsal after about 5 minutes because I felt
sick, and went straight to bed. Luckily, the shows were
cancelled, and I slept pretty much the whole day. About all I did
besides that was eat some fried rice and watch TV (I watched Troy about
2 and ahalf times...). It was crazy to go up to the top deck and
see how much the ship was actually rocking--like something out of a
movie. Besides that I think I slept 25+ hours in 2 days. Once we finally got to Bermuda, we didn't go to St. George because the winds were too strong, so we ended up being in Hamilton for 5 days straight. Which might not seem so bad if you're on vacation, but I'll be glad to be visiting some new ports soon. Because of the shows being cancelled one day our schedule for the rest of the week was kind of strange. But it was good to change things up a little. As soon as we left to head back to Norfolk the weather got crappy again. Just as we were leaving port it started to rain. The rest of that cruise and the next one (a 6-day cruise) were also very rocky, and I was on the seasick pills pretty much the whole time we were at sea. The pills really are not good because they make me sleepy and zombie-like, but I'll take zombie-ness over the alternative any day. The 6-day cruise was also weird because our musical director/pianist had to fly back to Chicago for the last half of the cruise. Because of that, we changed around the schedule for our shows to do the ones that required him the most at the beginning of the week. Things were pretty disorganized and sloppy while he was gone, so this cruise it was great to have him back. The current cruise is also an 8-day cruise, and it's our last time in Bermuda. The cruise over here was a little rocky, but not as bad as before. We heard about a Norwegian ship that went from Bermuda back to Boston, right through a storm. They ended up arriving 25 hours late, and a bunch of the windows on the ship were broken from the waves. I think they went through 30+ foot seas and 40+ mph winds, while we only went through 12 ft and 25mph. Glad I wasn't on that ship. Anyway, as I said this is my last time in Bermuda, so I'm enjoying things here for the last time. In my next email I'll try and give my perspective on Bermuda, to give you a feel for what kind of a place it is. Next week we set sail for the Caribbean and Tampa, FL, and we're getting three new bandmembers. As always, more later. Brian Einstein Lassiter |
