You must also realise that I am not a Canadian by birth and that my heritage, traditions and thinking are conditioned by the fact that I was born an Englishman and still regard myself as being as much English as I am Canadian.  Because of this my interest in European affairs is much more intense than yours and my reaction to "foreign" events is.....

January 27
Be ready to leave 20:00.  Flap, eating, gunfire, rumors.

January 28
01:10 left camp.  07:00 Halbaw.  Left arm u/s.  Jettisoning.  1/2 hour and on to Friewaldau 12:00.  2 1/2 hours then ___________.  6 km to barn at Steinruhe.  At 17:00 hours.  700 in barn.  33 kms.

January 29
08:00; Priebus 12:00 Moskaw 19:00.  Cold. Tired.  19:30 lodged in brickworks.  30 km.

January 30
Brickworks.  Bread issue.

January 31
Brickworks.  Soup from owner's wife.  1/5 of parcel each.  Night in worker's rest room.

February 1
07:30 to Graf von Arnimisch's riding academy.  Barley soup and barley sweet.  Trading.  10:30 on march to Spremberg.  Mild night.  Sledges kaput.

February 2
06:00 hours barn at Graustein 7 km from Spremberg.  4 hours in hay and then on to Spremberg.  14:30 arrived at flak school.  Good meal of soup and rest.  16:00 to Spremberg West and into rail cars.  Left Spremberg 23:00 cold and uncomfortable.

February 3
07:00; 9 km. from Spremberg.  9/14 parcel and bread issue.  17:00 Halle.  15:00 Torgau.  No water all day.

Monday, April 9
15:00 G/C informs us of move 18:00.  Collect 2 parcels.  Much bashing.  21:00 first blocks leave camp.  Dummy run.  Back at 23:00.  Night foggy.
